Speaking to Pinkvilla, Chetan revealed that there was a time when Vishal Bharadwaj was gearing up to make the movie. During the discussions, the initial names considered were Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Saif Ali Khan. “I think 2 States sabhi ke naam ka article to aaya hi tha (I think articles mentioning names of most of the actors did come out),” the writer added.
He also shared about being dissatisfied initially with the casting of then newcomers Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt after having SRK and PeeCee into consideration. The writer opened about the initial discussions he had with the makers. “To be honest, when they said, there is a new director and it’s Arjun Kapoor who had one movie and Alia Bhatt who had one movie, Student Of The Year. I was like ‘okay’, but this is not what was discussed. It was such a nice casting, and it made the movie fresh because they were young. If it were older actors, I don’t know, maybe they would have done a great job. But it was very surprising,” he added.
The movie was eventually directed by Abhishek Varman. Alongside Arjun and Alia, it also starred Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh and Revathy in leading roles.
