Lady Victoria Beckham has admitted that she has ‘never felt prouder’ of her husband David after he received his knighthood for services to sport and charitable causes

Victoria Beckham said she has “never felt prouder” of her husband David. The fashion designer, 51, met footballer David when she was at the height of her pop star fame with the Spice Girls almost 30 years ago, and they went on to have Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, as well as 14-year-old Harper together and took to social media in the hours after David received his knighthood from the monarch at Windsor Castle for services to sport and charitable causes.

She wrote: “David, from the moment I met you 28 years ago, you’ve always been so proud to represent your country. Whether on or off the pitch, no one loves England or respects our Royal Family more, so to see you honoured by The King today is something I’ll forever cherish.

“You’ve achieved so much, and yet you’re still the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago, as well as the most amazing husband and father. I’ve never felt prouder than I do today. Sir @davidbeckham , we all love you so much xxx”

Victoria, who was known as Posh Spice when she shot to fame alongside Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Melanie C and Emma Bunton, will henceforth be referred to as ‘Lady Beckham. ‘ This designation is granted to a woman married to a man who holds the title of ‘Sir’ and whilst it’s an optional formal adjustment the showbiz legend has chosen to accept it.

Following the announcement that the footballer player would at last receive the dream accolade, his partner shared a heartfelt message on Instagram. She wrote next to a photograph of her hugging her husband: “You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir David Beckham!

“What an honour, I couldn’t be prouder of you. Your dedication to the things that matter most – your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family – has never wavered.

“The way you’ve touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are and continues to inspire us every day. But above all else, I’m so, so proud to call you mine. I love you so much.”

David himself was also moved when the announcement was made, telling PA: “Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour.

“I’m so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I’m grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment,” he added.

“It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.” The sports star had been widely tipped for the honour and was reportedly set to receive a knighthood in 2022, but leaked emails from 2017 in which he purportedly criticised the honours system and its committee scuppered those plans.

At the time, he reportedly lashed out at the committee, branding them as “unappreciative c***s” and allegedly stated that he didn’t “care about being knighted.” But his team hit back at these reports, labelling them as misleading and accused them of twisting the truth.
