Washington: US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Republican senators, spoke about his recent encounter with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and shared an interesting anecdote that made everyone laugh. He mentioned that he wished his own cabinet members would remain as loyal to him as Xi Jinping’s associates are to the Chinese leader.
Referring to the officials who accompanied Xi, Trump said, “I have never seen anyone so scared in my life.” He went on to describe how six of Xi’s aides stood on either side of him in a stiff, alert posture.
Imitating Xi’s aides:
The President told the senators that none of them spoke during the entire conversation. Mimicking the scene, he added, “There were six people on each side of him, all just standing like that, watching closely. I asked, ‘Will you answer me?’ And I got no reply. Xi wouldn’t let them respond.”
A dig at JD Vance
Donald Trump went on to say, “I wish my Cabinet behaved like that. I want my Cabinet to be like Xi’s. I’ve never seen people so scared in my life.” Trump then turned the conversation toward Vice President JD Vance and took a playful jab at him. Trump said, “JD doesn’t act like that. He interrupts during conversations. I’d like him to behave like the Chinese — at least for a few days. Right, JD?” The remark sparked laughter across the room.
