Actress Deepika Padukone’s exit from films such as Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD has sparked a debate on irregular working hours in the film industry. Reports suggested that she wanted an 8-hour working shift a new mother but the producers couldn’t meet her demands. Now, Haq actress Yami Gautam, who is also balancing motherhood and films, opened up about the same.

During a conversation with Times Now News, Yami Gautam said, “To begin with, once a mother, always a mother. Regardless of whether you are employed or a stay-at-home parent, every mother is unique and does everything possible for her child. No one holds more importance to a mother than her child. Regarding my profession, the manner in which I select my scripts is entirely separate from my personal life.”

The actress continued, “While we may desire a time limit like in other professions, our industry operates differently There are various factors, such as locations, permissions, and the involvement of other actors and technicians. Therefore, the idea of a time limit is quite subjective and relies on the collaboration and understanding between an actor, a producer, and a director,” she further explained.

Haq director Suparn Verma also chimed in and said that this has been a longstanding issue in the industry, and some actors work only eight hours a day, five days a week and avoid night shoots.

“This is something that has been happening for decades. There are actors who shoot for only eight hours a day, shoot five days a week, they don’t do night shoots. This is pre-decided among the director, producer and the actor. So why is it that if a female actor has said, it has become an issue. At the end of the day we are human beings making art and emotions in very odd circumstances. So I don’t think there is anything wrong on asking about time if it suits the production. If it suits, they go ahead with it, if it doesn’t, they don’t,” Suparn added.
