In an emotional moment, she applied turmeric to his body and put vermillion on her own forehead, symbolically “marrying” him even after his death.
In a deeply tragic turn to a love story, a 21-year-old woman named Aanchal Mamidwar “married” the dead body of her boyfriend, Saksham Tate, just before his last rites. Saksham was allegedly killed by Aanchal’s father and brothers because they did not approve of the relationship due to caste differences in Nanded, Maharashtra.
Aanchal said, “Our love won, even after Saksham’s death. My father and brothers have lost.” She has also decided to stay with Saksham’s family for the rest of her life as their daughter-in-law. People who saw the emotional moment said Aanchal believed this ceremony would make their love “immortal.” Videos of the heartbreaking act spread quickly across social media.
Speaking to the media, Aanchal demanded strict punishment for her father and brothers, saying they should be hanged for what she called a “cold-blooded murder.”
Aanchal first met Saksham Tate through her brothers, but their relationship soon came under heavy pressure from her family because Saksham belonged to another caste.
According to the police, once Aanchal’s family found out that she wanted to marry Saksham, her brother Himesh Mamidwar shot him. The bullet hit Saksham in the ribs, and then Himesh struck his head with a tile or stone, killing him on the spot. The attack took place in the old Ganj area on Thursday evening.
Police said Himesh was arrested right away, along with his brother Sahil and their father, Gajanan Mamidwar. Officers also mentioned that Saksham and Himesh were once good friends, and both had police records in the past.
On Friday evening, as Saksham’s family was preparing for his last rites, Aanchal reached his house in deep grief.
In an emotional moment, she applied turmeric to his body and put vermillion on her own forehead, symbolically “marrying” him even after his death. She said she did this because, although Saksham was gone, their love was “still alive.”
