Meet Flipperachi, Bahraini Rapper, His Song 'Fa9la' Powers Akshaye Khanna's Entry In 'Dhurandhar'

The rap song, Fa9la, has taken over India’s social media. Especially, the iconic entry scene of Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar, with the song as the background score, even made the film’s deadly antagonist look charismatic. However, while the character of Akshaye, ‘Rehman Dakait’, is Pakistani and the particular scene is supposed to showcase Balochistan, Fa9la is actually a Bahraini-language rap song by Flipperachi. As the craze for Fa9la has spread in India, here’s everything you need to know about the rapper from Bahrain, Flipperachi, a.k.a. Hussam Aseem.

Who is Flipperachi, a.k.a Hussam Aseem?

Hussam Aseem is a Bahraini rapper who is popularly known by his stage name, Flipperachi. The Indian subcontinent might be recognising his talent now, after the success of his song in Dhurandhar. However, Flipperachi is regarded as one of the most promising rappers in the Gulf region. His songs are considered catchy and have gone viral before among Arab hip-hop enthusiasts.

In fact, Flipperachi is considered one of the most important rappers of the region who creates Khaleeji-style rap. For the unversed, Khaleeji is a popular musical genre in the Gulf world. It combines traditional Arabic instruments with modern hip-hop beats, with the rap lyrics often focusing on an Arabic way of life, culture, and having fun. Even Flipperachi’s song, Fa9la, is a Khaleeji rap with lyrics that aren’t discernible to Indian ears, talking about having a fun time using local slang and dialects.

Flipperachi’s success before Bollywood recognition with Fa9la

Flipperachi released the song Fa9la in 2024. Bollywood music composer, Shashwat Sachdev, incorporated the song into Dhurandhar, setting it as the background score as Akshaye Khanna makes his entry as the movie’s antagonist. However, before getting recognition from the India film industry, Flipperachi had already enjoyed immense success. According to a report by LastFM, the Bahraini rapper found his love for music at the age of 12 and began developing his distinctive rap style as a teenager. The Outlaw Productions website claims that Flipperachi’s turning point in life was getting signed by their production banner.

Flipperachi’s profile on the Outlaw Productions website states that meeting DJ Outlaw, who is also a music producer, changed his life. The rapper signed with them in 2008. However, he did not make his debut album immediately. Flipperachi worked for years on developing an album that would represent him as a brand. After collaborating with many regional and international artists, the rapper released his first studio album, Straight Out Of 2Seas, in 2014. The track, We So Fly, became a hit.

After that, Flipperachi and another artist, Daffy, released an album known as 9ARAT. This brought massive success into his life as the album’s songs topped many charts, including iTunes. In particular, the song Ea Laa went viral and now has millions of views on YouTube. In 2024, Flipperachi went on to receive the Bahraini Artist of the Year award. For those who have recently found out about Flipperachi after Dhurandhar, songs like Shoofha, Shino AlKalam Hatha, Enty Jameela, and Nayda are some of the most popular ones from his discography, apart from Fa9la

Flipperachi’s Fa9la, used in Dhurandhar for Akshay Khanna’s entry, becomes the new Jamal Kudu

In recent years, Middle Eastern beats and songs have seen a rise in popularity among Indian musicophiles. The 2023 movie, Animal, made the Iranian folk song, Jamal Kudu go viral as Bobby Deol made his entry as the villain in the film. Similarly, this time, the Bahraini rap song Fa9la has been on everyone’s mind as the villain of Dhurandhar marked his entry into the story with it. A look at Flipperachi’s official YouTube channel shows that while his other songs have hundreds of thousands of views, Fa9la is currently sitting at 7 million. As the song catches up with more and more desi listeners, the numbers have been increasing.

The popularity of this song escalating is equal parts the credit of Flipperachi and Akshaye Khanna. While the song is definitely catchy and worth the hype, Akshaye Khanna’s dance steps and charisma, combined with the beats, have got everyone hooked. Interestingly, a Koimoi report shared that the dance steps were impromptu and improvised by Akshaye. The script actually had ‘Rehman Dakait’ simply walking to his seat to show that he has a commanding personality.

However, when the scene was being shot, Akshaye Khanna walked out of the car with swagger, but then started to dance with the background dancers, copying their moves. This was done to show ‘Rehman Dakait’s unpredictability, his complex care-free attitude, and to depict that he was a magnetic villain rooted in his culture. Akshaye’s moves have definitely added more charm to the already catchy beats of Fa9la, making the song and the rapper, Flipperachi, overnight sensations. Along with that, cinephiles have also come to realise the underappreciated appeal of Akshaye Khanna as a versatile actor.
