Delhi-Dehradun expressway: In a major update on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday revealed that the 212-kilometre expressed will be opened for the public “in the next 10-15 days”.

When will Delhi-Dehradun expressway be opened?

Replying to a query in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament, Gadkari said he has sought time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration of Delhi-Dehradun expressway, and while the road transport and highways minister did not give a specific inauguration date, he assured that the 6-lane access controlled expressway will be open for traffic “in the next 10-15 days”.

The Delhi-Dehradun expressway project was approved in 2020, and PM Modi laid the foundation of the expressway in December 2021.

Built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore, the Delhi-Dehradun expressway is a 6-lane highway expected to drastically cut travel time between the national capital and Uttarakhand’s Dehradun to just two hours from the current 6.5 hours.

The expressway, which is divided into four sections, is constructed starting from Delhi-Mumbai Expressway(DME) near Akshardham in Delhi, Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, EPE interchange at Khekra in Mandola, Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh to Dehradun, Uttrakhand.

Notably, special provisions have been made in the construction of the entire corridor, and the route from Ganeshpur to Dehradun has been kept safe for wildlife.

Additionally, there are also plans to build 12-km elevated road, 6 animal underpasses, 2 elephant underpasses, 2 major bridges and 13 minor bridges.
