Popular actor Ravi Teja appears to have taken a pragmatic view of his current standing in the industry and trade circles. Once celebrated as the ‘Mass Maharaja’, the actor has reportedly decided to drop the popular tag for his upcoming film following a series of box-office disappointments such as Tiger Nageswara Rao, Mr Bachchan, and ‘Ravanasura.’

“Tags for stars have long been a part of Telugu cinema, with fans and filmmakers using them to define an actor’s on-screen persona,” says a distributor. “The title ‘Mass Maharaja’ remained synonymous with Ravi Teja for many years. He was last seen in Mass Jathara, which was released in November with the said tag. However, for his upcoming film Bhartha Mahasayulaku Vignapthi (BMW), slated for release on January 13, his screen name will simply read Ravi Teja, without any prefix. It is a pragmatic and appreciable move,” he adds.

Directed by Kishore Tirumala, Bhartha Mahasayulaku Vignapthi is conceived as a clean family entertainer aimed at the Sankranthi festive season. The project was planned well in advance, with Ravi Teja consciously opting for a family-oriented film, a genre he has not explored much in the recent past.
