Netflix’s ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 4 Ending Explained, Does ‘Mickey Haller’ Win His Trial?

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 has finally dropped on Netflix with the most personal stakes for ‘Mickey Haller’ yet. After three seasons of watching him outsmart the system from the defense table, viewers got a complete treat when ‘Mickey’ himself went on trial. The new season is adapted from Michael Connelly’s The Law Of Innocence, which continues the story from Season 3’s cliffhanger, in which a body is found in the trunk of ‘Mickey’s car.

Thus, he sets out on what the creator, Ted Humphrey, told Tudum, “the most emotional and personal” journey in prison where he awaits his trial for allegedly killing his former client and con man, ‘Sam Scales’. With these old enemies joining in, let’s find out what happens at the end. 

Why Is ‘Mickey Haller’ on trial?

The prosecution for ‘Sam Scales’ is led by ruthless attorney, ‘Dana Berg’ (Constance Zimmer), who builds a strong narrative, including evidence of ‘Mickey’s motive, history, and opportunity. Since ‘Sam’ had long avoided paying his legal fees, Mickey angrily threatened him. The same threat comes back to haunt him in the courtroom amid Season 4.

When ‘Mickey’ and his team investigated the matter, they found that ‘Sam’ was operating a biofuel subsidy scam through an LLC linked to a shady businessman from ‘Mickey’s past, ‘Alex Gazarian’. Although the case had begun as a murder case, it slowly became a federal conspiracy involving FBI informants and organized crime. Ted Humphrey and co-showrunner, Dailyn Rodriguez explained to Tudum that they designed the layered mystery for Season 4 to showcase how “the enemies Mickey made over the years” have finally gotten a hold of him.

Who actually killed ‘Sam Scales’?

The reality behind ‘Sam Scales’ death is darker and more ironic than one can think. He was not killed because he talked to the FBI. Instead, he was killed because he was skimming money from the criminals he worked with. ‘Maggi’ revealed that he was “scamming the scammers,” and ‘Alex Gazarian’ got him killed for greed. Furthermore, he got an opportunity to describe ‘Mickey’ by framing him in the case.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend, ‘Jeanine Ferrigno’, remains the only person who could save Mickey. However, she refuses out of fear of the mob. On the other hand, the FBI, who lost their informant in ‘Sam’ pressures ‘Mickey’ to stay silent for an ongoing investigation across the country

Does ‘Mickey Haller’ win his trial? 

Although not in his traditional sense, but ‘Mickey Hallerx does wins in the end. The court proceedings do not end with a verdict exonerating the lawyer, but with a deal in which thr district attorney agrees to drop all charges if ‘Mickey’ stays silent until the federal case ends. But ‘Mickey’ refuses. As Manuel Garcia-Rulfo explains, the character “would rather go down than live with doubt over his innocence.” He asks for a public exoneration, and despite Berg’s opposition, they are forced to clear his name, and Mickey finally walks free. Later, when he leaves the hall, he breaks down in ‘Maggie’s arms, showing a rare moment of vulnerability.

Does The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 set a stage for a Season? 5?

When fans began to think that a storm had passed away, they got a massive cliffhanger in the end when ‘Mickey’ meets a mysterious woman, played by Cobie Smulders, who claims to be his sister and saves him from gunfire, setting a spark for the expansion of his personal life in the new season. Meanwhile, Season 4 premiered on Netflix on February 5, 2026, with all 10 episodes released together. It features Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Angus Sampson, and Jazz Raycole, with new additions like Constance Zimmer and Sasha Alexander as FBI agent Dawn Ruth. Also, the show has already been renewed for Season 5, which will adapt ‘Resurrection Walk’ focusing on ‘Mickey Haller’s personal life ahead.
