The expectation when the Giants hired John Harbaugh was that he would assemble a quality coaching staff filled with experience.
Harbaugh is making good on that expectation, and on Thursday, he showed his ability to bring proven assistants into the fold with the addition of Greg Roman, The Post confirmed.
Harbaugh interviewed Roman for the offensive coordinator position that went to Matt Nagy, but that did not close the door on Roman, who has been an offensive coordinator at four different NFL stops.
He is coming to the Giants to work on the offensive side of the ball, most likely concentrating on the running game.
There is a considerable history with Roman, 53, and the Harbaughs.
He was most recently with the Chargers, working for Jim Harbaugh — who fired Roman last month after the Chargers were beaten 16-3 in an AFC Wild Card loss to the Patriots.
From 2018-22 he was John Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator with the Ravens, relying heavily on a thumping running game as he welcomed in rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Roman resigned from the Ravens after the 2022 season.
The Harbaughs, though, cannot seem to quit on Roman.
In 2009 and 2010, Roman was the associate head coach at Stanford when Jim Harbaugh was the head coach.
Roman orchestrated the 49ers offense from 2011-14 for Jim Harbaugh, designing an attack around the running and passing ability of Colin Kaepernick.
The 49ers made it to Super Bowl 47, losing to John Harbaugh’s Ravens 34-31.
In 2015, Rex Ryan hired Roman as his offensive coordinator with the Bills.
Now Roman will work with Nagy on a resigned Giants offense led by Jaxson Dart entering his second NFL season.
