Mum Stacey Solomon was forced to fashion another birthday cake from fruit for youngest daughter Belle’s third birthday after husband Joe Swash’s epic baking fail
Stacey Solomon had to come to the rescue in time for youngest daughter Belle’s birthday – after husband Joe Swash accidentally messed up the cake.
The 36-year-old took to Instagram to share a video of her making an impromptu birthday cake out of fruit after Joe’s fairytale castle cake went drastically wrong, with just hours to go until Belle’s third birthday.
Posting a video of his mishap, poor Joe said: “In my brain, obviously it’s not what I expected it to look like, but sometimes you just need to deal with things.” As he said that, one of the castle turrets hilariously fell over. In another snap, the 44-year-old looked crestfallen as he insisted: “I did my best.”
Revealing what had happened, mum-of-five Stacey took to her own Instagram to share that although she didn’t have time to make a whole cake from scratch, she’d seen others making birthday cakes out of fruit instead, so she was giving it a go.

As she started to do it, Joe is heard saying in the background: “Tell them what you really said,” after she realised his cake had gone wrong. Refusing, Stacey replied: “I’m not going to – as it’s not PG!”
Using a small and a large melon as the base, Stacey proceeded to stick cocktail sticks all over it and add fruit like strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, until it was covered. She then stuck three candles in the top.
Giving her opinion on her last-minute birthday cake efforts, Stacey told her 6.1 million followers: “I mean it just looks like a pile of fruit, but I think she will like it.” She added: “Might have to go find a Colin the Caterpillar when they’ve gone to bed tonight. At least I know this will 100% get eaten tomorrow. I do think it’s cute though.”
In reference to Joe’s failed cake, Stacey said she was also trying to rescue that and told fans: “For all of you asking, don’t worry. I’m also in the process of trying to make some kind of cake pops out of this. It also got worse as time went on,” followed by laughing face emojis.
Sharing a video of her running a bath afterwards, Stacey said: “Decided to treat myself. I made Joe do the school run so I can have a bubble bath after the stress and chill. This makes up for ‘cake gate.'” But it was all alright in the end, as Stacey shared a look at her birthday table for Belle ready for her party on Saturday. As usual, it looked amazing – and Stacey went for a blue, cream and gold theme.
There was a huge blue number three balloon, a teddy bear balloon and see-through balloons with blue bows hanging from the ceiling. Then on the table, there was a stunning bouquet of blue flowers, candles, cake stands, trays and popcorn cartons, all waiting to be filled with party food.
Over the top, Stacey wrote: “I can’t believe our baby Belle will be 3 tomorrow. When did our littlest pickle get so big,” followed by a sad face emoji. In the next post, a proud Stacey said: “Goodnight. The birthday table will forever have my heart. Every birthday, every baby, we make a special table.”
And in the end Belle ended up with three birthday cakes, as Stacey revealed her pal Sam had made her one too. She said: “Also @sams_growingfood texted me that she made Belle a cake. Now she has a fruit cake, castle make shift cake pops and Sam Sam special cake. Can’t wait for her to wake up tomorrow.”
