The Masked Singer’s Davina McCall has shared a “big change” in her life as she tries to stave off a devastating illness that previously affected a close relative

TV presenter Davina McCall has opened up on a “big change” she had made in her life as she shared her family’s painful health history.

The Masked Singer judge, 58, has suffered from her fair share of health issues in recent years. In November 2024 she underwent brain surgery after doctors found she had a benign brain tumour.

In November last year she revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer after medics found a “very, very small lump”. The tumour was removed in a lumpectomy, adding that it was caught earlier and had not spread. It comes after Davina broke down in tears with her husband after a “terrifying” insight.

In a painful revelation on her Making The Cut podcast she co-hosts with new husband Michael Douglas, Davina said that her brain tumour, along with her family history of Alzheimer’s, has sparked a “big change” in her life.

She said: “Because my dad had Alzheimer’s, I want to work a bit harder. I’ve downloaded a memory app, I’ve got the brain gym.

“Since I’ve had the brain operation, I want to learn. I’m hungry to learn. It’s quite interesting.”

Her third husband Michael Douglas, who she married last December, said he has recognised the change she is experiencing.

He said: “I’ve seen that big change in you. I can see you’ve become very interested in stepping outside what you currently know. To want to get more stuff.”

Davina’s dad, Andrew, died in February 2022 at the age of 77 after a long battle with the degenerative disease Alzheimer’s.

The former Big Brother made a heartfelt Instagram post at the time where she called her father a “legend”.

She wrote: “My Dad, Andrew, died on Monday night. He took a turn for the worse on Sunday but thankfully he wasn’t in pain. He was peaceful. I’m so grateful for that, and that we could be with him. He was the best Dad I could ever wish for.

“My sister and I hit the jackpot. He always made time for us, opened his ( and my amazing mummas) house to all our friends, temporarily adopted mates of mine that needed help. He was a facilitator, always helping people with intros … he knew EVERYBODY. And they ALL loved him! I can’t imagine how many careers and businesses were started because of him.

“The word legend has been used many times to describe my Dad . He was a bon vivante, loved life, positive to the very end… “it just works” was one of the last phrases he was able to say as Alzheimer’s robbed him of the power of speech.”

In 2017 Davina spoke emotionally about the signs that made her suspect her dad had Alzheimer’s. He had repeated a story he had only told 15 minutes earlier while he forgot events that had happened just days before.

Catch Davina on The Masked Singer tonight (Saturday, February 7) from 7pm to 8.30pm on ITV. She is joined by the likes of Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama and guest panellist Katherine Ryan.
