Marks & Spencer’s suede loafers were a sell out sensation last year, and they’ve just brought them back in a brand new lighter colourway ready for spring
Last year there was one pair of footwear that everyone just had to get their hands on; Marks & Spencer’s suede loafers. The chocolate brown flats were the must-have footwear for summer and autumn 2025, and were almost constantly sold out both online and in-store.
However it seems they’re just as popular as ever, as M&S has brought them back ready for spring in a brand new colourway. As well as the chocolate brown shade, the Suede Flat Loafer Pumps now also come in a light tan shade that’s a must-have for the brighter months.

Priced at £42, the Suede Loafers are the perfect staple to keep in your wardrobe, ready to be worn with everything from jeans and T-shirts to wide leg trousers and maxi skirts. One reason they were so popular is that they offered a much more affordable alternative to Saint Laurent’s £935 Le Loafers, which have a similar ruched detail around the front.
The new lighter tan shade of M&S’ Suede Loafers is perfect for spring and summer (when we eventually get there), but considering how quickly the original pair sold out, we recommend getting your hands on them quickly. Currently they’re already sold out in sizes UK3 and UK4, but are still in stock in sizes 5-8.
They’re made from a plush real suede with a lightly textured finish which gives them their high end look, and feature ruching detail and a strap across the vamp for a classic finish. The flat heel means they’re easy to wear all day whether it’s to the office or out running errands, and they feature the brand’s signature Insolia Flex which ensures your foot is correctly placed within your shoes, improving the natural rotational movement of the ball of the foot.
The high street also has plenty of its own version of the classic suede loafers, with H&M’s £74.99 Suede Loafers still available in sizes UK2 to UK9. Meanwhile at Next, the Friends Like These Chocolate Brown Penny Loafers are £35 and are made from faux suede for those who prefer to stick to vegan-friendly materials.
However, the new Suede Loafers have already gotten rave reviews from shoppers who got their hands on them. One said: “These shoes look expensive and are great with ankle length jeans & trousers. I hope brown continues to be ‘the’ colour for spring as M&S have certainly upped their game with their styles this winter. The shoes are true to size and very comfortable.”
Another wrote: “Lovely and soft, very comfortable, I would buy these shoes again.”
The closest to negative feedback that the Suede Loafers got was this comment from one shopper: “Although I buy a lot of my clothes from M&S, I don’t have much success with footwear. The sizing just not quite right. These were lovely but too long and too wide! Bought my standard size 6 but couldn’t keep them on my feet. Sent back.”
Whilst another said: “I haven’t worn them out yet but they are so comfy, and look great with jeans. I’m waiting for a dry day. The only thing is I wish they had more of a thicker sole, will be slippy with the bottom of shoe being very smooth with no ridges. I had the light brown and it’s a gorgeous colour.”
