Don Henley is one of the most renowned American singers and songwriters. Notably, he is a founding member of the legendary band, the Eagles, where he served as a drummer and vocalist. After being formed in 1971, Don and his band signed a recording contract with Asylum Records, David Geffen’s label. At the time, Don co-wrote most of the band’s most well-known songs with his fellow bandmate, Glenn Frey. According to reports, the Eagles ranked among the top five overall bestselling bands of all time in America and were the highest-selling American band in their country’s history. However, it is worth noting that in 1980, the band temporarily broke up due to personal tensions that arose while recording their sixth studio album, The Long Run.  

Following this, Don Henley pursued a solo career, which was successful in its own right. Multiple songs of his, such as Dirty Laundry, All She Wants to Do Is Dance, and The Boys of Summer, reached the Billboard Hot 100, and he also earned a Grammy Award. 14 years later, in 1994, the Eagles reunited and have been going strong ever since. Sadly, during a recent appearance on CBS’s Sunday Morning, Don suggested that this might be their last year as a band. He also expressed his desire to focus more on his family. Similar to her husband, Don Henley, Sharon Summerall was raised in Texas, spending most of her early years in Dallas. For her secondary education, Sharon went to Richardson High School in the 1980s. During a 2008 conversation with The Mirror, Don not only mentioned that he and his wife grew up in the same place but also that “her father grew up on a farm like mine did, so we have a lot in common.”  

It was while Sharon attended her school that she started modelling. According to reports, she was signed to the Ford Models agency for commercial and catalogue work. Sharon’s career came to a brief halt in 1982 after she was involved in a car crash, which left her neck pretty injured, according to D Magazine. Two years later, she returned to modelling and was soon noticed by major department stores for her talent.

While she was still modelling, Sharon was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which unfortunately cut her budding career short. For the unversed, the disease can lead to pain plus trouble in walking, seeing, and speaking. Don Henley offered insight into her condition in a 2008 interview with The Mirror, saying that “she is managing, holding her own,” and that she has “good weeks” and “bad weeks.” Seven years from the initial interview, Don echoed the same sentiment while speaking to The Wall Street Journal. He said: 

“We’re fortunate in that she has the relapsing/remitting form of MS, not the kind where you go straight downhill. So she’s holding her own. We feel hopeful about the future. She can still drive and get around. She’s not getting better, but she’s not getting worse.”

If a report by Texas Monthly is to be believed, Sharon Summerall and Don Henley met for the first time via a music agent, Angus Wynne. After getting to know each other and dating for some time, Don and Sharon tied the knot two years after their first meeting with each other. The couple had a star-studded wedding ceremony on May 20, 1995, with guests like musicians, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jackson Browne, Sting, Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett, and Don’s bandmate, Glenn Frey. For the big day, Sharon chose to wear a long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder white wedding dress. She paired it with a veil and looked beautiful with her brunette curls loose down her back. On the other hand, Sharon’s husband, Don, wore a classic tuxedo and a bowtie.

Don Henley once said that he wrote the song, Everything Is Different Now, to describe the relationship that he and his wife, Sharon Summerall, share. According to People, the tune of the 2000s song is a reflection of how falling in love with Sharon changed him as a person. In the song, Don calls his wife “an angel with the golden wings,” and describes her as having “a heart as big as Texas.” Don’s bond with Sharon is particularly captured in the lyrics: 

“I hate to tell you this, but I’m very, very happy…She saw me down here in the dark somehow and everything is different now.”

Over the years that Don and Sharon have been husband and wife, they have welcomed three children. Reportedly, they have two daughters, Annabel and Julia, and a son named Will. While they initially lived as a family in Los Angeles, they decided to move to Dallas to keep their children away from the pressures of Hollywood. Talking about the same during an interview with The Mirror, Don Henley said: 

“I wanted my children to have an upbringing similar to my own. I don’t want to raise my children out there in an environment of such self-absorption. Not that it can’t be done, but it is too difficult, especially as I am not around all the time.”
