Marvin Humes has shared his children’s sweet reaction to his unmasking in The Masked Singer semi-final after secretly taking part in the ITV show as Can of Worms
Martin Humes has shared the sweet reaction his children had to him being unmasked on The Masked Singer. The JLS star ,40, was secretly taking part in the hit ITV competition series where celebrities dress up in costumes and perform pop songs whilst judges Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama and Jonathan Ross try to guess their identity.
Having made it to the semi-final of the competition as Can of Worms, Marvin was finally out of the show just before the big conclusion. But the former X Factor contestant, who is married to ex-Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes and has Alaia Mai, 12, Valentina Raine, eight, and four-year-old Blake with her, took to social media on Sunday to share how his children took the news.
Some guesses from the panel included that of Marvin’s bandmate JB Gill, and the children started to get excited. When one of the judges named Marvin as a potential guess, the penny started to drop.
As the family chanted the famous “Take it off!” along with the episode as it aired, the two youngest were amazed to see their dad come on screen and began shouting and screaming around the living room. Marvin captioned the post: “The can is open!!! Surprise!!! Finally the worm is out of the can!!! What a sho! Absolutely loved it! For the kids reaction alone!!”
The post quickly gained reaction, with a host of the duo’s famous pals weighing on on the comments section. Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr wrote: “This is soooo cute,” whilst Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett wrote: “THIS IS THE BEST! You were so incredible!”
Masked Singer judge and Love Island presenter Maya said: “Can of worms was a crowd favourite! This is so good” and former Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock said: “Cutest thing ever,” and emblazoned her comment with a string of heart-eye emojis.
In a bid to reach the final, Marvin had performed the disco classic Cha Cha Slide and Ordinary People by John Legend and following his unmasking, explained to host Joel: “It’s the most bizarre show, I just sang what I sing to the kids at home, basically.”
His unmasking just moments after Ben Fogle was booted out in what was a double-elimination twist that meant they have both now missed out on a place in next week’s final. Moth, Toastie and Conkers will compete for the title of winner.
Speaking after his exit from the show, Marvin said: “That was the whole thing. When I talked about doing the show, I wanted to be completely across the board. My first song was Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. It’s a big tune to be fair. And then Ghostbusters and then Temperature. Then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pure Imagination, which is one of my favourite songs.
“I drive my kids mad singing that at home when we’re watching the movie. And then tonight, Cha Cha Slide. Who doesn’t love Cha Cha Slide ?”
Marvin, who has also had a host of presenting gigs on programmes like This Morning and The Hit List, shot to fame as part of JLS on The X Factor in 2008, and they launched a greatest hits tour last year, but admitted that it was “strange” to be singing solo for the first time in a while.
He said: “Do you know what, what’s really strange for me is I haven’t sung by myself in a long time. I’m used to being with three other guys on stage and that’s quite a comfort. A bit of security. Although I’m completely masked, it’s still been quite strange being out on my own singing.
The Masked Singer finale airs Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.Like this story? For more of the latest showbiz news and gossip, follow Mirror Celebs onTikTok,Snapchat,Instagram,Twitter,Facebook,YouTubeandThreads.
