Joanna Page has revealed the embarrassing mistake she made the morning after sharing a kiss with a Hollywood star at a hotel. The Love Actually actress, 48, explained the incident occurred following a dinner with Johnny Depp.
Both featured in the 2001 film From Hell, and Joanna confessed she was so thrilled about the kiss that she rang her mum to tell her. Discussing the sequence of events with the Times, she recalled: “Johnny Depp slid his arms around my waist and kissed me very gently on each corner of the lips.
“We’d all been out for a meal. When we got back to the hotel. My breath was knocked out of me. It’s everything you would think and more. I phoned my mother saying, ‘Johnny Depp kissed me!’ I didn’t sleep that night.”
However, things went downhill the following day, she revealed, reports Wales Online. Joanna added: “”I went to the set and, because I was squatting on the floor, all het up, I farted in front of him,” she admitted, adding: “I was mortified.”
This isn’t the first occasion Joanna has discussed her career, with the actress previously acknowledging that Gavin and Stacey initially didn’t offer much financial reward.
Joanna made the revelation whilst remembering how she had to take a job in a shoe shop to get by during a period when both she and her husband James Thornton had seen their shows axed by the BBC.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday she recalled: “It was terrifying but we scraped through – me by working at a shoe shop, James by doing voiceovers. Then, luckily, we started getting acting work again.
“Gavin and Stacey didn’t pay well at all – co-star Mathew and I were laughing recently at how badly.”
Despite the initial low pay, Gavin and Stacey eventually became a beloved national treasure, captivating the UK until its finale in late 2024.
In a chat with The Times, Joanna described the experience as “bittersweet”, revealing that she spent her days “laughing and crying”.
After Gavin and Stacey wrapped up, Joanna embarked on a new venture, launching a podcast called ‘Lush! With Joanna Page ‘, where she discusses various topics, including her relationship with James Thornton, whom she wed in 2003.
During a recent episode of Joanna’s podcast, the couple, who share four children, opened up about their unconventional sleeping arrangements, which sometimes involve them sleeping in separate bedrooms.
She elaborated: “Because we’re in separate bedrooms that’s because, four years later, I’m still choosing to sleep with Boe [the youngest child] in her bed because she’s like a warm rabbit!”.
“She’s warm and she’s all so cosy and when she turns to face me and she puts her arm around my neck and she squeezes me in I just think, oh my god, this is so much better than sleeping in the bed with James!”.
