The mother-in-law of a suspect held in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has insisted he is innocent. Police are searching the house of a man held in connection with the disappearance of the 84-year-old, who is the mother of US television anchor, Savannah Guthrie.

Following the development, a woman has been speaking to US media outlets and has identified herself as the mother-in-law of the detained person and said he has nothing to do with the case.

“They’re just invading my property,” she said. “I told him (an investigator) they’re going in and out of my house, taking a lot of pictures and everything.”

Speaking to CBS, she continued: “I told him, we’re not hiding anything. I gave him permission. You can go and search and there’s nothing in my house. You won’t find anything because we don’t have nothing to hide.”

The woman also described her son-in-law as a “good guy,” who does not have a criminal record or history of being violent.

Public Information Officer Angelica Carrillo confirmed to the Mirror US that the subject had been detained during a traffic stop, saying: “Earlier today, Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies detained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson. The subject is currently being questioned in connection to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

It comes after TV presenter, Savannah, issued a haunting prediction as the FBI released a terrifying video of the suspect. The release surveillance footage shows a masked individual approaching Nancy’s front door and interfering with her front door camera on February 1.

There is no indication that the detained person is the same individual shown in the newly released video footage.

Earlier on Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel shared videos and photos of a masked and “armed” person. “Law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The videos and images showed a figure wearing a mask, gloves, a zipped-up jacket, trousers and trainers. The person also had a backpack and a handgun.

They were also at Nancy’s home around the time that investigators believe she was abducted on February 1. Authorities have previously outlined a timeline for Nancy’s disappearance, noting that at 1:47 a.m. , the 84-year-old’s doorbell camera disconnected.

The Guthrie family reportedly viewed the images before they were made public. According to NBC, the FBI released them after family and law enforcement were unable to identify the individual. The federal agency is hoping the public will recognise the person. Savannah, Nancy’s daughter, shared the surveillance images with the caption, “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

Alongside this latest update, TMZ reported on the same day that movement was detected in the Bitcoin account linked to the ransom demand for the first time.

These demands called for millions in bitcoin, setting two deadlines: Thursday (February 5) and Monday (February 9). By that point, both deadlines had already elapsed.

Nancy has been missing since February 1, when her family filed the report. She was last spotted the previous day after having dinner with relatives before being dropped off at her home.
