Stateside TV host Savannah Guthrie issued a number of urgent pleas just hours before the latest development in the case for her missing mum as a person has been detained

Savannah Guthrie issued an urgent plea just hours before the latest development in the case of her missing mum, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old was last seen on January 31 before police launched a missing persons case a day later.

Now, a person has been detained hours after surveillance footage was released showing a masked figure on the elderly lady’s doorstep on the day of her disappearance. A home is being searched in Rio Roco, Arizona, in connection with the case.

However, the mother-in-law of the detained person has told stateside publications that he has nothing to do with it. After the haunting footage was shared publicly, TV host Savannah released a desperate message on her social media.

Posting on Instagram, the NBC News star shared the clips and wrote: “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”

She had earlier shared a similar message, saying: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.” In both messages, Savannah pleaded with anyone who may have information to contact the FBI or Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

In the released footage, an individual can be seen wearing a backpack and a ski mask. They were seen tilting their head down and away from the doorbell camera.

It shows a person is holding a torch in their mouth and trying to cover the camera with a gloved hand and part of a plant ripped from Nancy’s yard. FBI Director Kash Patel told how the “armed individual” appeared to “have tampered with the camera.”

The clips were released almost a week after it was said there was no footage available due to a lapsed doorbell camera subscription. However, the footage has now been able to be pulled from data on “back-end systems” after investigators spent days trying to find lost, corrupted or inaccessible images, Patel said.

Nancy went missing from her home in the early hours of February 1. Investigators said she was taken against her will.

On Monday, Savannah shared an emotional message with her followers. She said at the time: “I wanted to share my thoughts as we enter into another week in this nightmare. Thank you so much for the prayers and the love we have felt, my sister and brother and I.

“And that our mom has felt. She was taken and we don’t know where… We need your help. No matter where you are, even if you are from Tucson… We are at an hour of desperation.

“Because we believe that somehow, some way, she is feeling these prayers, and that God is lifting her in this moment and in this darkest place. We need your help, law enforcement is working round the clock tirelessly to try to find you.

“So I’m coming on to ask nor just for your prayers. If you see anything or hear anything that seems strange you, that you report it to law enforcement, we are at an hour of desperation and we need your help.”
