A gunman opened fire at Patongprathankiriwat School in Hat Yai, located in Songkhla Province in southern Thailand on Wednesday, authorities said. The 18‑year‑old suspect entered the school and fired shots, injuring several people including students and staff, according to police and multiple news reports.

“The perpetrator has been captured,” Deputy Superintendent Wichian Soboon said, reported Reuters.
Officials later confirmed that the gunman had been detained and all hostages freed. At least three people were reported injured in the incident, though official casualty numbers have varied in early reports.
The motive for the attack has not yet been officially disclosed. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
