Britain’s Got Talent judge and Heart Radio presenter Amanda Holden insisted she regretted her decision after realising the pair involved had fallen for each other
Amanda Holden has revealed she was once left heartbroken after an ex-boyfriend and one of her close friends embarked on a relationship. The 54-year-old presenter is happily married to music producer Chris Hughes, with whom she has two daughters.
However, during her younger days, Amanda confessed that following the end of a relationship with a former boyfriend, she attempted to act as cupid by introducing him to one of her single friends.
While it appeared to be a kind gesture at the time, the Britain’s Got Talent judge revealed she subsequently realised it was a huge mistake.
Asked by co-star Ashley Roberts if she had ever found out about a friend dating one of her former partners, Amanda openly shared her emotions.
“I had an ex that I was keen on, and I fixed him up with one of my friends, which absolutely killed me. I don’t know why I did that,” she revealed on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show, which she co-hosts with Jamie Theakston.
Asked if the circumstances left her heartbroken, she continued: “Sort of. Even though I had moved on and was seeing somebody else, I thought they would work together. But then when I saw them together, I was like, ‘What are you doing?'”
Amanda made the confession as she and her co-stars discussed Gordon Ramsay’s account of how he initially met his wife, Tana.
Speaking in his new documentary, Being Gordon Ramsay, the celebrity chef revealed that Tana was initially his friend’s girlfriend, but he was immediately captivated by her.
He recalled: “Tana was driving the car and I was sat in the back seat looking at my mate, thinking, ‘Oh my god, your girlfriend is f****** gorgeous.
“She looked like a young Julia Roberts and brought this level of excitement I’d never felt before. I’m not sure what Tana thought when she met me; I got the feeling she wasn’t a big fan.”
Confirming his fears, Tana added: “I thought he was really arrogant, really full of himself. He used to really irritate me.”
However, once both were single, she opted to give him an opportunity, and the pair went on to marry in 1996.
Fast forward to the present day, and they share six children, including Holly Ramsay, who recently married Adam Peaty, and former Strictly Come Dancing star Tilly Ramsay.
Looking back on the couple’s romantic journey, Ashley observed: “It was meant to be,” while Amanda added laughing: “All is fair in love and war.”
The television star first met her husband Chris in Los Angeles in 2003, before going on to marry him five years later.
This new chapter followed the conclusion of her eight-year marriage to presenter Les Dennis, who has also remarried since.
Heart Breakfast with Jamie and Amanda airs weekdays from 6.30am
