European round-up: Kane and Diaz send Bayern into DFB-Pokal semi-finals

Harry Kane and Luis Diaz were on target as Bayern Munich moved into the DFB-Pokal semi-finals with a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig.

The Allianz Arena was stunned into silence when Christoph Baumgartner rifled home what looked to be an early opener. However, there was a reprieve for Bayern as the Austrian was ruled to have come back from an offside position.

Both sides had clear-cut chances thereafter in an entertaining encounter, but the deadlock was finally broken in the 64th minute by Kane, who is said to be in ‘intensive talks’ with Bayern regarding his future.

Kane converted from the penalty spot after Josip Stanisic was brought down by Leipizig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.

Three minutes later Diaz doubled the lead, latching onto Michael Olise’s long ball from the right flank and sliding the ball under Vandevoordt.

Advantage Sociedad in all-Basque semi-final

Real Sociedad will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final with arch rivals Athletic Bilbao after prevailing at San Mames.

Bernat Turrientes was the difference-maker for Sociedad, tapping in at the far post in the 63rd minute after Goncalo Guedes had lofted the ball over the goalkeeper, Athletic paying the price for poor play in possession as they fell victim to a high press from the visitors.

Lazio win shootout to book Atalanta semi

Lazio will play Atalanta in the Coppa Italia after the semi-finals after they came from behind to beat Bologna on penalties.

Santiago Castro headed Bologna in front from a corner in the 30th minute, only for Tijjani Noslin to restore parity three minutes into the second half.

It was Lazio who held the nerve in the subsequent shootout after the game finished 1-1, the visitors converting all four of their penalties, with Lewis Ferguson and Riccardo Orsolini failing from the spot for Bologna as the holders saw their title defence come to an end.
