A member of the Giants’ last two Super Bowl-winning teams is joining the coaching staff in Atlanta.
Chase Blackburn, who spent eight of his 10 years in the NFL with the Giants, was hired by the Falcons as their new assistant special teams coach, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday.
The former linebacker will work under special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman, landing on his feet after he was fired as the Rams’ special teams coordinator late in the 2025 season.
Blackburn, 42, was given the heave-ho after the Rams fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seahawks in Week 16 — a game that included several special teams blunders.
The Rams’ special teams unit gave up a 58-yard punt return touchdown, and that play proved pivotal, as it jump-started a comeback for the Seahawks.
Kicker Harrison Mevis also missed a 48-yard field goal attempt in the defeat.
Blackburn started his coaching career in 2016 as an assistant special teams coach with the Panthers before getting promoted to coordinator in 2018. He remained in the position until after the 2021 season.
He spent one season on the Titans’ staff as an assistant on special teams before he joined the Rams in 2023.
Blackburn started his NFL playing career in 2005 with the Giants, eventually winning Super Bowl titles in 2008 and 2012. In the second game, he memorably picked off then-Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the fourth quarter.

He also spent two years playing for Carolina in 2013 and ’14.
Blackburn racked up 372 tackles, 4.5 sacks and four interceptions during his career.
