Nicole Curtis Apologises For Using Racial Slur, Reacts To Comeback Show Being Canned, ‘Never Has..’

Nicole Curtis is the host of HGTV and DIY Network’s mega hit show, Rehab Addict. The show premiered in 2010 and has since become part of American binge-watching. However, a recent incident has led the network to make the tough decision to end the show. For the unversed, Rehab Addict had returned for Season 9 in July 2025. However, the third episode of the show was scheduled for release on February 12, 2026, but it has now been cancelled. 

Nicole Curtis apologises for using a racial slur during filming

Nicole Curtis has finally addressed the controversy surrounding HGTV’s decision to pull her show, Rehab Addict, from its platforms. The decision was made by the network following the release of leaked footage showing her using a racial slur during filming. While the video left netizens extremely angry, Nicole has now issued a statement apologising for using the slur. In a conversation with TMZ, Nicole Curtis shared that the racial slur has never been a part of her vocabulary. She didn’t excuse the use and apologised to the community and stated:

“I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologise to everyone.”

In the same conversation with TMZ, Nicole Curtis shared that she was not aware that HGTV had decided to pull the plug on her show the same day it was set to return to the air after a hiatus. However, she revealed that she is grateful for the run she has had with the show. Nonetheless, her focus is not on her career at the moment, but on fixing her relationships and doing the right thing for her community. The statement could be read as:

“I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”

HGTV made a strong statement by calling off Rehab Addict

For the unversed, the controversy began when RadarOnline published production footage from the set of the home renovation series. In the clip, Nicole Curtis appears frustrated while working on a project and blurts out the “N-word”. She reacts almost immediately in shock to what she said. However, soon after the video was leaked online, HGTV made the tough call to cancel the long-running show.

In a statement, HGTV said they were recently made aware of the slur Nicole Curtis used during the shoot. The network revealed that the use of such words is not only disappointing but also doesn’t align with HGTV’s values. They further shared that they have removed Nicole’s series. The statement could be read as saying:

“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict.’ Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees, but it also does not align with HGTV’s values. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.”
