Vitor Pereira has held talks with Nottingham Forest over the managerial vacancy created by the dismissal of Sean Dyche.

Dyche was sacked late last night, not long after the goalless draw at home to bottom side Wolves.

The result left Forest three points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games remaining.

The BBC report Pereira, who worked under volatile Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiacos, is the favourite to take over and ensure the club remain in the top flight.

Forest now seeking fourth boss in wild season

The decision to part with Dyche was a surprise in some aspects – Forest are ninth in the form table over the past six games – but not in others. Marinakis is regarded as a hirer and firer and he is now searching for his fourth head coach of the season.

Having sacked Nuno Espirito Santo in September, Ange Postecoglou came in but lasted just 39 days before being dismissed.

Dyche lasted a little longer – 114 days – but the axe fell in the early hours of Thursday morning. A Forest statement read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.

“We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Dyche knew Forest sack was coming

Speaking after the game with Wolves in which Forest had 35 shots on goal, Dyche sounded like a man who knew what was coming.

He said: “The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt. If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“People can demand change, and then it’s always whether they change or not.

“If the owner wants to make a change then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.

“I understand the noise here has changed significantly since the last few games.”

Pereira is used to firefighting in the Premier League having joined Wolves when they were second from bottom in December 2024. He inspired a revival and they ended up in 16th place.

The Portuguese signed a three-year deal at Molineux in September 2025 but was sacked six weeks later with the team bottom of the table.
