Zayn wrote on X at that time that he had a lot of respect and adoration for Gigi, and thanked the fans for respecting their decision. Gigi shared a similar statement, saying that she wants the best for Zayn.

While Zayn and Gigi reconciled in 2018, they reportedly separated in 2019. The former couple then appeared together in New York City in 2020. Everything was going fine until Zayn Malik reportedly had a dispute with Gigi’s mother, Yolanda, in October 2021. The news was first reported by TMZ, and a day after the report went viral, insiders confirmed that Zayn and Gigi had separated.

Zayn Malik reportedly had an argument with Gigi Hadid’s mother

TMZ reported in October 2021 that Zayn Malik hit Gigi Hadid’s mother, Yolanda, as per the insiders. The outlet stated that Yolanda was allegedly planning to file a police complaint. However, the reasons behind the argument were not revealed. Zayn responded to the report in the same month without revealing the name of the family member, as he took to X to share a lengthy statement.

Zayn described himself as a “private person,” and he wants his daughter to grow up in a place where she can be safe. Zayn wrote that he was aiming to protect that space for his child, and he “agreed to not contest claims” that emerged from an argument involving a family member of his partner. Zayn said that the incident he is speaking about should remain private and criticized the fact that it was revealed to the press. Zayn ended by writing that protecting his daughter remains his only priority despite the issues emerging from the report.

Zayn Malik dismissed the reports of him striking Gigi Hadid’s mother

While Zayn Malik shared a statement on X about the incident, he also spoke to TMZ in October 2021, denying the allegations against him. Zayn referred to Yolanda, saying that he wants her to reconsider the accusations and try to resolve the family problems in private. For the unversed, charges of harassment were imposed on Zayn in September 2021. According to PEOPLE, the legal documents alleged that Zayn had grabbed and shoved Yolanda into a dresser. 

Zayn was also accused of cursing at Yolanda and a security guard, John McMahon. The incident reportedly happened in Pennsylvania. In October 2021, Zayn Malik pleaded no contest to the allegations, following which he was ordered to serve 360 days of probation, with 90 days for each count against him. Apart from that, Zayn was restricted from contacting Yolanda or John, alongside participating in an anger management class and a domestic violence program.
