Sophie Khan Levy left fans shocked when she revealed her mother is also an actress.

Making her EastEnders debut in October 2023 as Priya Nandra-Hart, Sophie already captured viewers’ hearts. Beyond the BBC soap, many admirers might be surprised to discover the actress is the daughter of a well-known performer.

Priya’s entrance to Walford came with the bombshell that she’s the estranged mother of Davinder ‘Nugget’ Gulati (portrayed by Juhaim Rasul Choudhury). The forthright character also revealed to her ex-partner, Ravi (Aaron Thiara), that they share a teenage daughter, Avani (Aaliyah James).

Drug dealer Ravi was gobsmacked to learn about his secret daughter, but vowed to be a devoted father to both his offspring.

Priya and Avani swiftly relocated to Albert Square with the Panesar clan and immediately started making waves amongst residents.

Before landing the role of Priya on EastEnders, actress Sophie Khan Levy was no stranger to the small screen. The 36-year-old performer played Gabrielle Ade in the 2023 BBC true crime series The Sixth Commandment.

She additionally appeared as Florence Pandhi in the 2022 veterinary programme All Creatures Great and Small.

Last year, Sophie shared a heartwarming tribute to her mum on Instagram. One image shows Shaheen’s publicity shot from her Casualty days positioned alongside her daughter’s cast photograph as Priya in EastEnders.

Another snap captures the celebrated mother-daughter duo sporting sunglasses, whilst a separate video shows them preparing food together.

Followers were stunned when Sophie revealed actress Shaheen as her mother, with one commenter exclaiming: “No fudging wayyy!”. Another stunned follower exclaimed: “No way she’s your mum wow x”, while a third remarked: “Oh WOW I had no idea this total legend was your mother. Amazing.”
