Yuzvendra Chahal’s New ‘Sugar Daddy’ Ad Sparks Online Debate, Netizen Says, ‘Below The Line…’

Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian international cricketer, has been making headlines all things personal. His highly publicised divorce from Dhanashree Verma was once the talk of the town. While the former couple tried to maintain a dignified silence, it was Yuzi who subtly broke his silence when he sported his divorce t-shirt, ‘Be Your Own Sugar Daddy’, which he wore on the day of the final hearing. Now, Yuzi’s new ad with Shefali Bagga has sparked a new debate online.

Recently, a video featuring Yuzvendra and Bigg Boss 13 fame, Shefali Bagga, has surfaced online. The video was about Story TV, a micro-drama platform, which has named the leg spin bowler as its chief story officer. The platform used the ‘Be Your Own Sugar Daddy’ controversy to promote them, which didn’t go well with the netizens. In the clip, Shefali introduces herself as the lead actor of Story TV. 

In reply, Yuzvendra was seen telling that he is the one who makes a person star and narrates a script which includes the story of a Bollywood diva, who goes through a heartbreaking divorce and fights for alimony. Hearing the script, Shefali said that she thinks that she had heard this story somewhere. Although, Dhanashree’s name was not mentioned anywhere in the ad, netizens were quick to connect the dots and slammed Yuzvendra for his act.

Soon after the video surfaced online, the screengrab from the video, featuring the text, ‘Zero Sugar (Daddy) Diet’, was circulated on the platform, Reddit. Netizens flooded the comment section in no time. A user wrote, “This whole sugar daddy thing associated with Yuzi & Dhanashree for some silly Ads campaign or marketing is so below the line. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what happened between them, but seeing him do all this makes me happy for her.” Another user commented, “He is acknowledging that all that he brings to a relationship is his net worth. In other words, he is showing his low self-esteem.”

A Redditor wrote, “Sabse zyada milk apne divorce ko yahi kar raha hai aur dusro ko mock kar raha.” Calling the content ‘cringe’, a user commented, “I get that the content is cringe, but this new short drama thing is intriguing. Like, it’s cringe content today, but could be better in future. I remember when K-Dramas were only cringe, and look at them now. Or the early days of anime, how it went from childish cartoons to full-scale adult entertainment. That said, w** is wrong with this guy!”

Yuzvendra Chahal’s personal life

Yuzvendra Chahal tied the knot with Dhanashree Verma on December 20, 2020. They had a hush-hush marriage in Gurugram. However, after 18 months of marriage, there was a buzz that something was not well in their marital paradise, and thus, the couple was living separately. Later on February 5, 2025, the duo filed for divorce by mutual consent.

In 2024, Yuzvendra sparked dating rumours with RJ Mahvash when a picture featuring them during Christmas surfaced online. Although they didn’t confirm they were dating, their public appearances told otherwise. However, in January 2026, they unfollowed each other on Instagram. RJ Mahvash also shared cryptic poetry at the time. An excerpt from her poem can be read as:

“Tune har mushkil din pe khudko akela khada paya hai na ek din ye sab tere dost banne ke liye ek kataar mein khade honge har raat jis khwab ki fikr mein guzaari hai wo raat tere saamne sar jhuka ke khadi hogi Mujhe bharosa hai ke ek din ayega!
