Hyderabad: A family of four suffered injuries after the wall of a house collapsed at Nawab Saheb Kunta in Falaknuma police station limits. Locals immediately alerted the police and rescued the inmates, who were shifted to hospital with minor injuries. Police identified a weakened drainage system as the cause and registered a case against the owner.

The incident occurred at Yatru Hills Colony on Thursday night, leaving four members of a rented family injured. The victims include the mother, wife and two children who were inside the house at the time. The complainant, Younus Mohammad, said: “I stepped out during the night hours when the incident occurred. It was our family, including two daughters, wife and mother, in the house and they suffered injuries.”

Victim Jakiya Begum, 65, suffered a head injury and leg fracture, while Rajiya Begum, 40, sustained injuries to her head and leg. Both sons, aged nine and 13, suffered minor knee injuries.

Officials said the building collapsed due to poor drainage, with leaking pipes causing moisture infiltration that weakened bricks and led to cracks in the wall. Fortunately, there were no fatalities as the debris fell into an open space rather than directly on the family. Local residents rushed to help and informed the police, who arrived promptly and called an ambulance. The injured were taken to Osmania General Hospital. DRF and HYDRAA teams also visited the site on Friday afternoon.

A source recalled a similar collapse eight months ago and noted that many houses in the area were built without proper registration or safety measures, posing risks during the rainy season.

Neighbours highlighted drainage issues in the locality. A 45-year-old housewife living nearby said: “The drainage system here is poor. We often get it repaired and continue staying in the house. Buildings are constructed in very close proximity and there is no concept of a separation wall.” Another resident added: “We live in elevated terrain, but in the rainy season water seeps through the walls. I feared something like this would happen.”

While all residents were reported safe, police officials said the owner had offered compensation. However, a case was registered for negligence and endangering human life, and further investigation is underway.
