Helen Skelton has given a rare update into her ‘relationship’ with Gethin Jones. The much-loved TV and radio personality was romantically linked to BBC presenter Gethin last year, with the pair reportedly enjoying dates in a luxury spa.
Helen split from rugby player Richie Myler in 2022 – the father of her children – and rumours have swirled about a potential romance with Gethin, with them being pictured looking cosy at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards last year, where they embraced and leaned into one another on the red carpet.
However, Helen has poured cold water on reports of a romance brewing between Gethin and herself. When asked how Gethin was and if they had been enjoying more romantic dates, Helen, who recently moved back to her native Cumbria to live on her parents’ dairy farm, said: “No. Well, he’s in Manchester working away, so yeah, no, all good.”

And she insisted that they are nothing more than ‘work friends’ and always have been. “We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends. They printed pictures of us at work and that we’re together because we are at work together.”
Gethin and Helen have been friends for years and colleagues for just as long. Last year, they took part in Gethin and Helen’s Wheely Big Challenge – a 24-hour roller-skating challenge in aid of Comic Relief, which they worried might wreck their friendship. Gethin revealed: “What’s different this time is that we have each other. We’re best friends. We’re very honest with one another.”
During an appearance on Morning Live today, Gethin also publicly commented on his and Helen’s reported romance. The presenter was interviewing Christine McGuinness about her Situationships podcast.
When author Sophie Gravia and Christine discussed their own relationships and romances, one remarked about being single for a long time, with Gethin quickly stepping in to say ‘join the club’, seemingly confirming his single status.
BBC Morning Live presenter and Countryfile host Helen recently gave up her Sunday morning BBC Radio 5 Live show to concentrate on motherhood, but hasn’t ruled out marrying again or having another child. The 44-year-old said: “It’s not something I’ve thought about really. I don’t know – I just take each day as it comes. I know that’s boring but…”
But as a busy mum of three, juggling motherhood, career and the farm, she laughed off reports she was embroiled in a new romance, and going on dates, saying: “Again, I just take each day as it comes, nothing more to say on that.”
And she revealed that she didn’t think her dream man even existed. “I don’t know if they’ve made him yet!” she quipped. Despite there being no man in her life, for Helen, “life’s good. My kids are good full on fun so I can’t complain at all.”
And speaking at the TV Choice awards, the presenter revealed her favourite bit of motherhood is that: “You never know what is going to happen when you come down the stairs,’ joking that she is still more likely to embarrass them.
“I think I do stuff to embarrass them! It’s just life. I think anyone who’s got kids you can’t apologise for kids being kids you know. They’re learning like they all are.”
The star says her trim and toned size 8 figure is not down to taking diet jabs, but a mix of reformer pilates and “this is called three children who don’t like to walk!”
She said: “Oh God, no, I can’t commit to a vitamin regime, I am not going to commit to a diet regime. But I like sport, I am pretty active, I move around a lot and that’s what it is.”
