Caroline Flack’s friends have shared sweet tributes on the anniversary of her death

Olly Murs has paid tribute to Caroline Flack on the sixth anniversary of her death.

The Love Island presenter tragically took her own life in 2020 at the age of 40. A day after Valentine’s Day, Olly posted a photo of him with his arms around Caroline during downtime for The X Factor filming, which they hosted together for one series in 2015.

“6 years and it still feels strange you’re not here,” wrote Olly. “This photo was the first time we met in Birmingham 2011 and after about 5mins in a room we just clicked straight away! We walked out already laughing and giggling together. I miss those moments caz x thinking of ya family today.”

Comedian Leigh Francis also shared a photo of Caroline, ” Bless little Flack. Remember her always laughing x” he shared on the sad anniversary.

Last year a two part Disney documentary gave a new insight into the final months of Caroline’s life. Voice notes and texts from the TV presenter shed light on the star’s emotional turmoil ahead of an assault case against her.

Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth saw the TV presenters mum Christine accusing police and prosecutors of pursuing her daughter because of her ‘celebrity status.’

Caroline took her own life after learning prosecutors were going to press ahead with an assault charge over an incident involving her boyfriend Lewis Burton in 2019. Caroline was accused of assaulting her boyfriend following a row at her flat. Coroner Mary Hassell found that Flack killed herself because she knew she was being prosecuted and could not face the press coverage.

The documentary showed texts from Caroline to friends in her final days. One read: “I don’t see any way out of this” and another says, “I’m having a big panic attack”.

In another voice note, Flack says: “I think I should make a documentary about all of this, what do you think?”

Christine says: “As a parent, we think our children our always going to be there, I want justice for my daughter.” In 2023, the Metropolitan Police apologised to Flack’s family for not keeping a record about why they charged her with assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had recommended the former Love Island presenter receive a caution following an incident with her boyfriend but this was overturned after an appeal from the Met Police who instead charged her with assault by beating.
