Spanish figure skater Olivia Smart may not have medaled in the ice dance event last week, but she won’t be leaving the 2026 Milan Cortina Games empty handed after all.
Former Team USA Olympic ice dancer Jean-Luc Baker popped the question to Smart Saturday and she said yes.
The two shared the news on Instagram on Valentine’s Day.
Their love story somewhat follows the rivals-to-lovers trope.
Yes, Smart and Baker had been friends for a long time. But on the ice, the two were rivals.
Baker and Smart competed against each other at two World Championships and the 2022 Beijing Games.
Smart finished in eighth place in the ice dance event at the 2022 Winter Games – three spots ahead Baker.
After the event finals, Baker professed his love to Smart. Coincidentally, it was Valentine’s Day.
So it’s fitting that Baker decided to propose four years after he admitted he was in love with Smart.
Smart is a two-time Olympian who recently finished ninth with partner Tim Dieck in the ice dance competition.
Baker is also a two-time Olympian and won bronze in the team event at the 2018 Winter Games. But hasn’t competed since 2023 because of injuries.
