The body of a community dog named Orelha has been taken out of the grave in Florianópolis, Brazil, so experts can do new tests to understand how he died.
A new report is expected within ten days.
Dog Orelha lived in the Praia Brava area. The dog was attacked on January 4. Residents found him the next day and took him to a veterinarian, but he later died from his injuries.
The decision to remove the body from the grave was made after a request from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The request was approved by a judge.
Prosecutors said the first investigation had gaps, and they needed more information to understand exactly what happened.
An earlier report, based on the dog’s veterinary treatment, suggested that Orelha died after being hit on the head with a hard object.
A teenager was identified as the attacker. A request to place him in temporary detention was delayed until the new investigation steps are finished.
Police said they are working quickly to complete the new tests and move the case forward in court.
