An America’s Next Top Model panellist has shed light on a brutal scene from the beloved programme

He rose to prominence as Tyra Banks’ trusted aide on America’s Next Top Model, and now fan favourite Jay Manuel has lifted the lid on the reality behind Tyra Banks’ infamous outburst.

The revelation comes as Tyra features in a Netflix documentary examining the programme that captivated global audiences following its 2003 debut.

Titled Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, the three-part show is now streaming on Netflix.

One particular confrontation became synonymous with the series, leaving audiences utterly stunned. The incident occurred when Tyra berated contestant Tiffany Richardson, believing the young model was being ungrateful in her post-elimination speech.

“I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this!” she bellowed. “When my mother yells like this, it’s because she loves me. I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you, how dare you!”

The uncomfortable moment from 2005 remains ingrained in the programme’s legacy, and Jay has now illuminated what truly transpired.

“When they were done shooting, production staff literally took Tyra off set,” revealed Jay in the documentary.

“There was a lot more that was really said,” revealed Jay Manuel, one of Tyra’s former on-screen panellists, in the new documentary, reports the Mirror US.

“I will probably never repeat the lines that were actually said in the room that day… People have tried to make it something funny but it really wasn’t.”
