America’s Next Top Model had 24 seasons and each one was filled with a fair share of scandals. However, the biggest and most controversial one was of Shandi Sullivan. It was termed as a ‘cheating scandal’, but years later, one of the contestants of season 2, Shandi Sullivan, revealed that it was filmed getting ‘blacked out drunk’ with a group of Italian men. In Netflix’s docuseries, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Shandi revealed how it was shot and aired without her consent. 

What was Shandi Sulivan’s cheating scandal on America’s Next Top Model 2?

It was in the second season of America’s Next Top Model when one of the contestants, Shandi Sullivan was filmed getting drunk with a group of Italian men. Later, she was shown in bed with one of the stranger. It was the highly emotional incident. It was followed by a heartbreaking phone call to her then boyfriend back home as she was in a relationship. Over the years, makers were called out for shooting the incident and letting something like this happen. 

Shandi Sullivan revealed the truth about the night when she was filmed having s*x on camera

In the Netflix documentary series, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, which was out on February 16, 2026. The judges and members of the show’s production team talked about the incident first time after more than 20 years. As per Shandi Sullivan, she was just talking and drinking. Since she had not eaten anything at all the whole day or even slept.

Shandi revealed that she was crazily drunk and all she remember was the guy looking at her and everything was blur, but the next moment was that he was top of her. She shared that she was blacked out and no one did anything to stop it, and it all got filmed on camera. She said:

“We were just talking, drinking. I don’t think I’d eaten anything at all or had any sleep. I remember getting in the hot tub. I remember April and Mercedes getting in the hot tub. And then I just remember the guy looking at me and I looked at him, and I was pretty drunk at that point. Everything kind of after that is just a blur. All I remember is just like, just like remember him on top of me. I was blacked out. No one did anything to stop it. And it all got filmed, all of it. Every moment of it.”

Shandi revealed that she had two bottles of w**e and she remembers nothing. She shared that the man threw her in the shower, but she was blacked out most of it. She was quoted as saying:

“I was hammered. I think I had two bottles of wine by myself. I just remember, like, little bits and pieces. He threw me in the shower and then just sitting in the shower. And then we’re in the bed. I was blacked out for a lot of it. I didn’t even feel s*x happening. I just knew it was happening. And then I passed out.”

How did Shandi Sullivan confronted her then-boyfriend about her one-night stand on the show?

It is worth mentioning that Shandi Sullivan was in a relationship with her then-boyfriend, Eric, when she got intimate with the Italian men on the show. Later, it was called the cheating scandal. In a 2023 interview with EW, Shandi revealed that cameras captured her private moment when she called her then-boyfriend, Eric and told him about the ordeal. He said a lot of verbal scolding and it was the biggest controversy of the show that was aired in 2004.

Sullivan also accused production of manipulating her encounter with the model. She claimed that the cast invited the male models over, and they also provided them with alcohol. She added that she wanted to be sure that the guy was clean, so the production ended up filming that part where she asked the man about ST*s. She added that it was a bizarre moment and it was her real life not a script.

Shandi also revealed that painful phone call when she informed him about having s*x, and how cameras even captured the stressful moment. However, she had requested the production ot shoot it from afar if they had to it at all. Later, Sullivan shared that the crew regretted shooting the scenes for the series. She added that they were not allowed to talk to us, but they were sorry for filming it. 

It was the bizzare time for Shandi. She shared that she just wanted to die after what happend and how the storyline was unfolded. The incident was portrayed as cheating on her boyfriend back home after getting drunk. In the docuseries she called it a se**al ass**lt. However, the host, Tyra Banks clearly denies her involvement. She shared that she remembers her story clearly but she had no say in the production, it wasn’t her territory.
