MILAN – The U.S. women’s hockey team did not just march right to the Olympic gold medal game without much challenge.
They put the entire world on notice in the process.
A 5-0 clobbering of Sweden on Monday evening at Santagiulia Arena pushed the Americans through to the final Thursday. Following an undeniable display of pure dominance through each of the six games they’ve played since arriving here, Team USA is now one win away from its third Olympic gold medal and first since defeating Canada at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.
“I think it speaks for itself, what we want, what we came here to do,” Joy Dunne said after the U.S. extended its shutout streak to 331:23 — dating back to the second period of their first game of the tournament against Czechia.
