Selections based on a good track
Race 1

1. Nordic Viking is a big market watch first-up as a gelding and coming back to a maiden after taking on some nice ones in the spring. Form around Shangri La Boy at this trip reads well and expect he can land on speed and be very competitive fresh. 2. Gus The Great is likely not too far off a win and shouldn’t be far off his top after two placings from as many runs this time in. No match for the winner at Wyong last time but ran on well. 3. Sarapo is another returning as a gelding. Didn’t live up to his promising debut in his spring campaign, quiet trials leading in so betting a good pointer with him too.
How to play it: Nordic Viking WIN.

Race 2

8. Naadra is a nicely bred filly in strong two-year-old stable on debut after a comfortable trial win over the short course at Randwick a few weeks ago. If the trial is any guide she’ll be in the firing line and should run nicely in a tricky event. 4. Wolf Gap showed a bit of style in his strong finishing trial win at Canterbury in his second official hit out. Might like a decent tempo to sit off and run home. 3. Lorax was a $675,000 buy and has had a few trials over the last couple of months. Found the winner a touch slick late in the most recent but drawn one gets every chance.
How to play it: Naadra WIN.

Race 3

3. Nazwah looked quite dynamic running down the leader in a similar race on Australia Day when returning from a break. This race looks to be run at a genuine tempo and while up in weight she should have the chance to pick them off late again. 2. Straand Beauty dashed for home and wasn’t able to hold off Nazwah in that race. Right at his top now fourth-up and will be hard to run down again with a bit of a weight swing. 1. Kimberley Secrets is racing well without winning of late. She puts herself up there and that gives her a chance every time.
How to play it: Nazwah WIN.

Race 4

8. Sarrismo hasn’t done a lot wrong on race day and has an unbeaten first-up record going into this race. Have to treat his trials as fitness exercises as they’ve not been eye-catchers but he does get a nice scenario from a good gate. Hard to beat. 9. Extra Heights produced a brilliant win second-up at Canterbury then returned there in a race not run to suit, getting a long way back in a leader dominated race. Hit the line well but never a chance there. 1. Zulfiqar chased home Sovereign Hill two starts back and he wasn’t disgraced up in class at Randwick a bit over a week ago. Back to his right grade, drawn to effect and sure to be around the mark.
How to play it: Sarrismo WIN.

Race 5

5. Decorum is an up comer who looked quite good winning first-up at Warwick Farm two weeks ago where he was solid in the market and ran right up to it. Gets a lovely tag behind his major rival. Mile doesn’t look to be an issue and he’ll be hard to stop. 2. Lancelot Du Lac led all the way to win at this track and distance on Australia Day. Up in grade at Randwick he may have gone a bit fast up front but still boxed on well for third. The one to catch. 8. Le Troisir was a drifter in betting first-up at Newcastle but he charged at the line to get very close over 1300m. Up in grade but does appear as though the distance will suit and it’ll be interesting to see what he produces.
How to play it: Decorum WIN.

Race 6

4. Stylebender generally holds his form when he finds it so his last start close second at Gosford is a promising sign. Finds a wide open race, draws to get a nice run behind what looks to be a genuine tempo and drops 5kg. Sure to run well. 10. Twisted Love didn’t have a lot of support second-up but powered home to score an easy win at Newcastle over the 1850m. Obviously up in grade but looks a horse on the up. 7. Dolce Dior did a good job to recover from a flat spot when she resumed with a win over 1600m at Canberra. Jumping quickly in trip but is a winner at 2100m.
How to play it: Stylebender EACH-WAY.

Race 7

6. Long Legs is a lightly raced filly who won nicely when resuming last time in at this trip before a game third at Group 3 level at Newcastle where she put on a strong tempo and boxed on well. Just the one public trial but she has all the upside. 2. Heat Missile was way too good when scoring third-up over this track and distance two weeks ago. Big weight rise for coming back to mares grade and drawn wide but will make her own luck and be hard to beat again. 9. Profoundly is an interesting filly resuming having run fourth in the Reginald Allen in the spring. Trialled twice and drawn soft, keep safe.
How to play it: Long Legs WIN.

Best Bets: Race 5 (5) Decorum; Race 7 (6) Long Legs

Best Value: Race 6 (4) Stylebender
