In a recent conversation with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, when Neena was asked about her relationship with Vivian Richards and whether she loved him, the actress replied:
“Go ask him. Everyone is afraid to ask him. Why all of you ask only me? I think we were in love. Although we were together for only a short while, the time we spent together was wonderful.”
Neena Gupta shared the reason behind not getting married to Vivian Richards
Neena met Vivian Richards in the 80s, and the two fell in love with each other. Soon, Neena got pregnant with Vivian’s child. Despite having Vivian’s child, Neena didn’t marry Vivian. The actress revealed the reason behind it and shared:
“It wasn’t practical. Either I would have had to leave behind my job and go to the West Indies, or he would have had to give up his career and come to India; neither of which was possible.”
Neena wasn’t ready to compromise on her career, and neither was she; she wished the same for Vivian. She revealed being blinded by love, but also later revealed in many interviews that it wasn’t easy to raise a child as a single mother. In the same interaction, Neena also stated that it was she who decided to continue with the pregnancy. Talking about Vivian’s reaction, she shared:
“I asked him (Vivian) if he was okay with me giving birth to his child, and he said yes.”
Neena Gupta spoke about her regret of having Masaba out of wedlock
Neena, who has brilliantly raised her daughter, the ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupta, is an inspiration to all single mothers. Earlier, in an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Neena had talked about her regret of having a child out of wedlock. Commenting on her decision to deprive Masaba of her father and a normal family, Neena Gupta said it was selfish of her. In her words:
