Heated Rivalry, the Canadian sports drama everyone can’t stop talking about, is finally releasing in India. Starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, it is based on the Game Changer book series by Rachel Reid. Heated Rivalry has been created by Jacob Tierney.

Ahead of its India release, Connor opened up about the experience of filming a club scene, surrounded by strobing lights and the technicalities of it. He shared, “Scenes like that are actually really technical considering the lights, the number of extras and everything else.

It’s so technical and you’re in that space all day long, that the emotions are found in the moment. And it’s really about understanding, listening and trusting Jacob and saying, ‘No I need a little bit more of a depth to this,’ or, ‘I need a little bit more confusion.'”

He further explained, “A lot of it is in slow motion too, so it comes down to the technique of being in that space, while also trusting and listening to Jacob. By that point, we had been with these characters for over a month, so we really knew how to navigate it.”

The club scene comes at a crucial point in the series, when the main leads, Shane Hollander (played by Hudson Williams), and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie), have parted ways. In the club, Ilya first sees Shane getting cosy with a woman and grows visibly jealous, staring at him intensely as the music pulses in the background. Moments later, Shane notices Ilya getting close to another woman and kissing her, which makes him equally jealous. Essentially, both of them are unsettled and envious at the sight of the other with someone else, and that mutual jealousy heightens the tension between them.

Meanwhile, talking about what drew him to adapting Heated Rivalry, Jacob said, “I really like the book. I’m a fan of the book and I thought there probably hasn’t been anything on TV like this and that felt like a really fun challenge.”

Heated Rivalry premieres exclusively on Lionsgate Play on February 20th.
