TEHRAN- The official inauguration ceremony of the Russia’s cultural center- Russian House- in Tehran was held on Tuesday morning, marking a new chapter in cultural diplomacy between the two countries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilyov congratulated the Iranian nation on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution and commemorated those who lost their lives in recent weeks, Mehr reported.
He emphasized that the activities of the Russian House had advanced in cooperation with cultural and artistic partners, the report added.
“The opening of this center will strengthen cultural cooperation,” Tsivilyov stated. “This center is, in fact, an expression of solidarity between our nations and a platform for cooperation in science, culture, and art. Iran is a key partner for Russia in the world, and we have enjoyed years of collaboration.”
He noted that individuals can engage in cultural exchanges at the center, adding that such interactions would naturally pave the way for broader economic cooperation. Concluding his remarks, he stressed that joint cultural energy could further expand bilateral relations, contributing to development and prosperity in both countries.
In the next part of the ceremony, Mehdi Mohammadi, Deputy for Legal Affairs, Parliamentary Affairs and Provincial Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, referred to the deep-rooted cultural ties between Iran and Russia that stretch back centuries.
“Iran also maintains multiple centers in Russia, with our official representation being the Cultural Attaché Office,” he said. “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes in cultural diplomacy, and we are convinced that any action that strengthens cultural bonds will be a successful one.”
Highlighting Iran’s northern provinces neighboring Russia and sharing maritime borders, he underscored the potential for regional cultural diplomacy built upon shared traditions and commonalities.
The next speaker was Yevgeny Alexandrovich Primakov, Head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States. Referring to the gathering of Iran enthusiasts at the Russian cultural center, he emphasized solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“We are confident that Iran will emerge from recent events with dignity,” he said, pointing to the importance of neighborly relations and shared waters as unifying factors.
Stressing lessons drawn from history, he added that mutual respect and friendship are strengthened through cultural and economic bridges. “We await all Iranians at the Russian House; as we say in Russian, our home is your home.”
Finally, Liliya Vladimira Mapangina, Director of the Russian House in Iran, expressed hope that the center would become a favored venue for talented Iranian youth and those interested in the Russian language, history, and culture.
“We hope that new ideas will take shape here and that joint projects and fruitful cooperation will be implemented,” she said, noting that both nations are united by shared respect for spiritual and traditional values, hospitality, and a love for poetry and philosophy.
Cultural ties between Iran and the Russia date back centuries, rooted in geographical proximity, historical interaction, and intellectual exchange. From classical Persian literature’s influence on Russian oriental studies to the translation of Russian literary giants into Persian, the two nations have long engaged in meaningful dialogue through art, poetry, philosophy, and scholarship. In the contemporary era, these ties have expanded through cultural centers, academic partnerships, student exchanges, joint film productions, exhibitions, and music and theater collaborations.
Both countries emphasize cultural diplomacy as a foundation for strengthening broader bilateral relations, viewing people-to-people contacts as essential to sustainable cooperation. Shared appreciation for traditional values, spirituality, and rich civilizational heritage continues to provide common ground, reinforcing mutual understanding and paving the way for deeper collaboration in cultural, educational, and artistic spheres.
