Married At First Sight UK star Dean Vary has shown off his jaw-dropping three-stone weight loss. The reality star, 31, became known to viewers after appearing on the show last year, when he said ‘I do’ to Sarah Gillanders, 31, just seconds after meeting her.
The London-born team building host, Dean, from London, was delighted with his match, but his feelings were not reciprocated by recruitment consultant Sarah, from Aberdeen, who didn’t feel the same.
Sarah admitted early on in the show that there was no sexual chemistry between the pair – and sparked backlash when she made insensitive comments about her new husband’s weight.

After trying to ignite some spark between the two, the show’s relationship guru Paul C Brunson slammed Sarah’s comments as ‘rude and disrespectful’ and left fans outraged and claiming she’d ‘led her husband on’.
Needless to say, the pair exited the experiment before the show ended. But fans have been left stunned at show star Dean’s body transformation, which he proudly showed off on social media with a before-and-after Instagram video on Wednesday.
In the first clip, dating back to January 2025, Paul weighed in at 135kg, while in the second, from this month, he showed him weighing 115kg.
In the caption, Dean – clearly proud of his progress- wrote: “The changes are starting to show. Still early in the journey and still work to do, but I’m heading towards that finish line one song at a time with my Juniper by my side. ‘Let’s keep going.”
It’s a positive update from the TV star, after an undeniably tough time on MAFS UK last year.
During his and Sarah’s honeymoon in the Maldives, a magical setting which could have been a dreamy break for the new husband and wife, Sarah made some brutal comments about Paul.
During an intimate, romantic beachside dinner, a producer asked her: ‘Is there anything that Dean could do to ever get a sexual spark?’ She responded curtly, “Get some tattoos and lose some weight, maybe?”
She was then reprimanded by the expert panel for being so ‘cruel’ and talking about Dean behind his back, which saw her in floods of tears – and led to a public apology during the show’s Commitment Ceremony.
Poor Dean took to TikTok after the difficult scenes aired, sharing a video in which he admitted it was “tricky” rewatching Sarah’s comments.
He said: “Hello you lovely lot. I wanted to send a message to say thank you for all your kind words and support. A lot of you are saying don’t change, be who you are and stay true to yourself.
“I can’t lie, yesterday was a tricky one, it was tricky to watch, but your love and support has been very well received, and it has helped to put a smile on my face. I’m usually sunshine and rainbows all the time as much as I can be. Sometimes you can’t be, but you try to be when you can.
“I know you guys are definitely helping to put the smile back on my face so thank you so much. I’d much rather be a care bear than a bad boy any day of the week, so don’t worry I won’t go changing who I am, and thank you once again for all the kindness and the love.”
Dean finished his video with the upbeat words: ‘There’s too much meanness and not niceness in this world, so just keep being positive and happy, and keep smiling.”
