BGT judge Amanda Holden is hot property right now but she has revealed the real reason she turned down one of the biggest gigs on telly as she reveals her personal choice for the job

Amanda Holden won’t be stepping into Tess and Claudia’s shoes anytime soon – and has laid out the reasons why she turned down one of the most coveted gigs on British television.

The Britain’s Got Talent star has opened up why she said no to hosting hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing with bestie Alan Carr, after Claudia Winkelman and Tesas Daly’s shock departure last series.

The 55 year-old Heart Breakfast presenter said she would rather the huge hosting job goes to an up and coming star rather than someone established – and maintained it should remain in the hands of two women after its predecessors’ success.

It was rumoured that Amanda and good pal, comedian Alan, were the top choice to replace Tess and Claudia on the dance show, following the runaway success of their BBC travel show, the most recent to air being Amanda & Alan’s Greek Job.

But Amanda has some very clear reasons for not taking the massive primetime role, explaining to the Mail, “You see, I am already part of a big show, and I’ll happily carry on watching Strictly from the comfort of my lounge, but it takes up too many weekends, I’ve got to remember that I have children and a husband’, she said.

“But I just hope that they still have two females doing it, that’s my big thing. They need somebody super funny, and somebody that you wouldn’t expect.”

She added of who she’d love to take on the mantle, “It’s a really amazing job to sort of break two people that we might know but don’t know that well and push them up into the spotlight.

“There are so many people and women in our industry without getting too political who have put all the work in, all the hours in, who deserve a bloody break, so often when I see lots of names attached to it, I think, boring, boring, boring, they’re all brilliant people but you go, “oh come on, think outside the box”.”

“It’s a really wonderful moment to put two strong women in a role on a Saturday night.’

Of who she’d choose for the coveted hosting job if it were her joice, Amanda thinks BBC bosses should ‘take a chance’ on a comedian, such as Canadian-British funnywoman Katherine Ryan – or British comedian and actress, Daisy May Cooper.

The mum-of-two also suggested One Show host Alex Jones could work perfectly, as she reckons she’s not seen enough on the small screen.

“She is a very good anchor and has a dry sense of humour and I think she’s often – I don’t see her enough, she’s not been overlooked but you don’t see enough of her on TV, she would be a really good choice.”

The age-defying star, meanwhile, did what she did best early this week, turning heads as she posed in a black bodysuit and towering black heels for some stunning shots for her 55th birthday.

Amanda often grabs headlines for her daring outfit choices on BGT, and said in the interview that her glamorous and daring wardrobe choices for the live shows this year – her 18th on the panel – will continue to be a theme..
