A.J. Brown stirs Patriots buzz as trade rumors begin to swirl again

Whispers that A.J. Brown could be headed elsewhere are getting louder.

After a drama-filled 2025 season in Philadelphia, Brown joined Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman for a podcast appearance, where Edelman, a former wide receiver who spent his entire career in New England, cracked a joke about the three of them being Patriots.

“Just remember, we’re all Patriots,” Edelman said on “Games with Names.”

“You know that, right?”

Brown then looked at Gronkowski and Edelman and smiled with a little wink to the two legendary Patriots pass catchers.

“Are you going to be a Patriot?” Gronkowski said, while Edelman began to scream with excitement.

As it appeared, an off-camera individual yelled, “Oh,” in the background, and Brown started laughing while repeatedly stating, “No!” and then adding, “I’m trolling.”

Brown has been vocal about his displeasure with the Eagles for the past two seasons, as he seemingly has not been on the same page with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

That type of disconnect is how trade rumors begin to heat up, and the Patriots fit is obvious.

Brown spent the first three years of his career with the Titans. Mike Vrabel, the Patriots’ current head coach, helmed Tennessee during that time.

Brown added later in the show that he didn’t really like Vrabel at first during his time in Tennessee due to his strong focus on accountability.

At the time, the Titans were quarterbacked by Ryan Tannehill, who, while serviceable, is not on the same planet as Drake Maye, who just lost the NFL MVP award by a single vote to Matthew Stafford.

Brown immediately burst onto the scene as a star in the league, putting up 1,051 receiving yards with eight touchdowns as a rookie in 2019.

The former Ole Miss star then exploded in his first two years with the Eagles, tallying1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first year with the Eagles.

His production has dipped over the past two years, which seems to be the cause of Brown’s displeasure.

Things got so bad in Philadelphia that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had to ask Brown to stop making in-season comments about his dissatisfaction.

If Brown does successfully force a trade, he would likely cost quite a bit of draft capital from the Patriots, who don’t have a clear opening at receiver since they already have Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte.
