Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent a detailed letter to UAE National Security Advisor Tahnoon bin Zayed outlining grievances regarding Emirati activities in Sudan and Yemen, Middle East Eye reported Friday.

The correspondence, reportedly shared with U.S. and Western officials, stated that Saudi Arabia can no longer tolerate the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s civil war.

In the letter to Tahnoon, nicknamed the “spy sheikh,” MBS also justified Saudi military intervention in Yemen as a national security necessity, saying that Riyadh views its southern neighbor as its exclusive sphere of influence and intends to take full responsibility for the country.

The letter highlights a significant escalation in the rift, specifically citing the UAE’s alleged decision to send military aid to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) without Saudi approval as a “red line.”

Tensions peaked in December when Saudi Arabia reportedly bombed an Emirati weapons shipment and supported Yemen’s government in ousting the STC.

The letter further criticized a covert operation to extract a former STC leader charged with high treason.

While the letter stressed “brotherly ties,” it appeared strategically written for Washington’s eyes, as President Trump recently acknowledged the rift and offered to mediate.

Tahnoon bin Zayed, who oversees $1 trillion in sovereign wealth, remains the primary troubleshooter for his brother, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed.

Despite Tahnoon’s reputation for pragmatism, the letter underscores that the dispute has become a deeply personal and familial confrontation between the two ruling houses.
