Who Is Mario Barrios’ GF? Meet Omayra Figueroa, His Baby’s Mom, Amid His Match With Ryan Garcia

Mario Barrios is one of the most renowned Mexican-American professional boxers. It has been more than a decade since Mario Barrios turned professional in 2013. Mario became the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight champion on September 28, 2019. To mention, it was after he had compiled an undefeated record of 25 fights since turning pro that he won the world title by unanimous decision against Batyr Akhmedov.

Mario Barrios moved up a weight class in 2022, and a year later, on September 30, 2023, he became the WBC interim welterweight champion by defeating the then-titleholder, Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugás. For the unversed, Mario Barrios is all set to defend his title on February 21, 2026, with his opponent this time being former WBC interim lightweight champion, Ryan Garcia. While the match will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, US, the event will also be shown live and exclusively on the DAZN PPV worldwide. As fans eagerly wait to see if Mario Barrios can hold on to his world title for longer, let’s take a look at the boxer’s personal life and relationship status.  

Mario Barrios’ girlfriend, Omayra Figueroa, comes from a renowned boxing family 

Mario Barrios was last known to be in a relationship with Omayra Figueroa. Many might not be aware, but she actually comes from a pretty well-known boxing family. Her father, Omar Figueroa Sr., is a veteran boxer and respected coach in the industry. Similarly, both of her brothers are also pretty well-known boxers. Her older brother, Omar Figueroa Jr., is a former WBC lightweight champion. On the other hand, her younger brother, Brandon Figueroa, is the interim WBC featherweight champion. He has reportedly held the title since February 2026.

If you are a fan of Omar Figueroa Jr., you might have seen his sister, Omayra Figueroa, with him. It was back in 2019 that she accompanied her brother, Omar Figueroa Jr., to the weigh-in night for his fight against Yordenis Ugas. Not only did she accompany Omar Jr. to the event, but she also went onto the stage where he undertook the ceremonial weight check and face-off. Now, you might think that since it was an important fight between Omar Jr. and Yordenis, the main focus would be on them. However, that wasn’t the case. No sooner did Omayra accompany her brother onto the stage than the media made the entire event all about her.  

Several news outlets at the time kept zooming in on Omayra Figueroa instead of the fighters. If reports online are to be believed, the Mayweather channel was one of the new outlets which focused its coverage only on Mario Barrios’ girlfriend, Omayra. With the boxers’ fans severely disappointed that Omayra stole the spotlight from the main match, she had to directly address the treatment she had received.

In a video which she made a few days later, Omayra claimed that neither did she do it on purpose nor was it planned from the start. She emphasised her innocence by saying that she didn’t even do anything on stage. According to her, many people started judging her because she is a woman in a boxing scene that is often dominated by men. 

It is worth mentioning that one of the reasons she got so much unwanted attention was her outfit. According to photos and videos from the event, Omayra wore a tight-fitting outfit that resembled a jumpsuit. However, she clarified the matter by saying: 

“And the outfit, it’s not a jumpsuit, by the way. It’s leggings and a crop top from Gym Shark, which is a fitness apparel brand…I did not wear that on purpose. I was in there all week for my brother, and I literally packed just gym clothes.”

Many might think that the event in which Omayra accompanied her brother and came to the limelight was only because she was Omar Jr.’s sister. However, that’s not her only identity. He has a gym and is a trainer not only for her brother but also for other elite athletes. According to a report by Essentially Sports, Omayra also owns a juice bar, among other things. It is worth noting that although Omayra Figueroa made headlines during Omar Jr. and Yordenis’ match, it was not the first time she had accompanied her brother to a fight, and she is a regular attendee of his matches.

It was in April 2024 that Mario Barrios announced the news that his girlfriend, Omayra Figueroa, was pregnant. No sooner had he posted the picture from what looked like an announcement party than his fans went into a frenzy. Many fans pointed out how beautiful Omayra Figueroa looked. Later, Omayra also took to social media to share how excited she was about this new chapter in her life. In a tribute to her boyfriend, Mario Barrios, she wrote: 

“To my bby daddy @boxer_barrios haha thank you for all that you do for us and for being the man that you are. I have no doubt you’re going to be a great father to our bby girl. She’s going to have some wild-a*s parents, but I know both of us will do the best that we can to give her a great adventurous life.” 

Months after their pregnancy announcement, Mario and Omayra’s daughter was born on August 19, 2024. They named their little bundle of joy, Luna Sofia Barrios. After her birth, Omayra called Luna a blessing, confessing that she was born earlier than expected and on the day of the super blue moon. It is worth noting that Mario and Omayra no longer follow each other on Instagram. While this suggests that they have broken up, the couple has neither confirmed nor denied the same. However, Omayra did reveal in an Instagram post that she is raising their child alone.
