BVSC starts into three-game series with narrow win over Vasass

BVSC edged out Vasas, 11:10, in the big derby of the 12th round of the Hungarian League. This game was the first in a series of three encounters between BVSC and Vasas in two weeks. On February 25 and March 7, the Budapest-based teams will face off in the Euro Cup eighth-finals.

BVSC opened the game very well, taking a 3:0 lead in the first four minutes. Vasas was able to come back. It caught up with BVSC before the middle break – 5;5. Early in the second half, Gyarfas put Vasas in front – 6:5. However, it turned out that it was Vasas’ only lead in the game. BVSC regained a 3-goal lead in its first possession in the fourth quarter (10:7). Vasas pulled another comeback to level at 10:10.  Matyas Meszaros scored a winner for BVSC – 11:10- with 99 seconds to go.

Meszaros and Zsombor Ekler were BVSC’s best scorers with three goals each. Lakatos, Dala, Djurdjic and Szalai netted two apiece for Vasas.

OSC Budapest earned three points in a hard-fought win over Eger. During the first three quarters, Eger dictated the pace and entered the final period leading 8:7. Still, the finish belonged to OSC, which leveled at 8:8 in the 27th minute. Just 20 seconds before the final buzzer, Bence Bendeguz Varga made it 9:8 to secure three points for OSC. Tamas Sedlmayer scored three goals for OSC, and Rajmund Radli had the same output in Eger.

Stylianos Argyropoulos and Vendel Vigvari each scored three goals, leading Ferencvaros to an 18:9 away victory over Szolnok. Ten outfield players from Ferencvaros contributed to the scoreboard in this match.
