Aamir Khan Productions recently announced the release date of the upcoming film, Lahore 1947. However, we are now getting to know that the makers are looking for a title change.
The publication quoted a source saying, “Lahore 1947 is based on the famous play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya. Since the film is set in the Pakistani city and during the Independence period, the title Lahore 1947 was initially deemed suitable. But now the makers feel that there can be a better title that is apt for the story of the film.”
The source continued, “Accordingly, they have come up with a few options. Another round of meetings will happen with the stakeholders, and if all are on the same page, the name of the film will undergo a change.”
Meanwhile, the period drama will bring together Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi and producer Aamir Khan for the first time. Opening up about the movie, Aamir shared that the late legend Dharmendra had already seen it. He added, “This was one of the favourite scripts of Dharam ji, and I am so glad he could see the film.”
The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s play titled Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. However, they soon find out that a Hindu woman still lives there and refuses to leave.
It stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta and Karan Deol in leading roles. Lahore 1947 marks Sunny’s next project following his recent blockbuster successes, Border 2. The film is scheduled to be released on August 13, 2026, during the Independence Day week.
