This autumn, Beatson Cancer Charity is set to host Scotland’s biggest ever charity yoga session, aiming to bring together 3,000 people for an uplifting fundraising event.

Hosted at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow on September 13, Yellow Yogis will be led by renowned yoga teacher Finlay Wilson (aka “the kilted yogi”) and broadcaster Jenny Powell.

If you’re looking for a way to give back, connect with a passionate community, move your body, or simply try something new, Yellow Yogis offers the perfect opportunity.

“My mission is to break down barriers to starting or attending yoga sessions,” Finlay said.

“Whether it is by offering variations for all abilities, supporting different financial realities, or simply by cracking a joke when the going gets tough, I aim to create a space where everyone will get something out of the class and move in a way they haven’t moved before.”

The session is designed to be inclusive and accessible to people of all levels, from beginners to experienced yogis aged 16 and over.

Blending movement and mindfulness, the event will include an energising warm-up, fun challenges, and a closing moment of stillness and gratitude. There will also be food and refreshments on the day to finish the day with community spirit.

The brainchild of Beatson Cancer Charity business ambassador Mike Smith, Yellow Yogis was designed to bring communities together and have a genuine impact on people’s lives.

He said: “I wanted to create something that could make a genuinely big difference, and the vision was simple: bring people together for one of the largest indoor yoga sessions in the UK.”

Making a difference

The Beatson is one of the busiest cancer centres in the UK with high clinical activity and patient numbers, supported by 950 highly skilled healthcare professionals.

It treats over 8,000 new patients, delivers 25,000 courses of chemotherapy, and conducts 6,500 courses of radiotherapy every year.

The charity works in close partnership with clinicians and researchers at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and The Beatson Institute for Cancer Research.

The Yellow Yogis event offers participants the chance to connect with others through mindfulness and movement, while also giving back through community fundraising.

Money raised from Yellow Yogis will directly support Beatson Cancer Charity’s Wellbeing Centre, a safe and calming space for patients and families. More than 14,000 patients have already received therapies through the centre.

The event will be supported by platinum sponsors including Allied Mobility, Arnold Clark, Marhall JA Resorts & Hotels, M&D Green Pharmacy, Malcolm Group, Scottish Power, and The Wood Family Charitable Foundation.
