Day 3 of Fully Fit brought us to the holy grail of OEM facilities: the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, Calif.

TPI isn’t just a range; it’s the largest range you’ve ever seen, which doubles as a testing facility, a 9-hole short course, a 9-hole par-3 course, a fitness center and so much more. You could practically live at TPI and never need anything else to play good golf.

Jake, Johnny and I got a little bit of time to watch Sean, Maddi and Wadeh get their full-bag fittings because we had recently all been fit by Titleist, but we each got to go through Titleist ball fittings and putter selections, while I got fit for a set of the new Vokey SM11 wedges.

That’s where Maddi ended up having her “aha” moment as she found a wedge that added a new shot to her game, a low spinner. Previously, she liked to play shots that rolled out on the green, but during her fitting, she unlocked the spinner with the proper grind (a 60.10S) and saw how much more reliable it could become.

Titleist Vokey Design’s new SM11 wedges feature a new precise CG position across each grind in a loft, meaning every wedge will now perform the same way with the same strike.

Sean came in with nearly a full set of Titleist golf clubs, but he wasn’t convinced his irons, a set of Titleist T100s, were exactly right for him. He was right, as he picked up about 8 mph of ball speed by switching to the larger T150, which proved to be much more consistent as well.

While Jake didn’t get fit for a full bag, he did get fit for a GT3 driver and found something that could finally compete with his Callaway Triple Diamond Tour Draw that had been so automatic for him over the summer. His new build actually reduced ball speed loss on mishits as well.

At the end of the day, Titleist gave us all demo versions of the wedge sets we were fit into and we got to play the par-3 course that’s within TPI, along with the balls we fit into.

We even got to see the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. It would certainly be hard to top the experience, but we’re only halfway through this whole journey, so there’s still plenty more to come.
