TEHRAN- The 37th edition of the Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF), the country’s largest annual cultural event, is scheduled to open on May 13, the organizers have announced.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the fair is widely regarded as Iran’s most significant publishing event, annually drawing hundreds of domestic and international publishers as well as large crowds of book lovers, academics and cultural figures.

For the upcoming edition, organizers are seeking to ensure a strong presence of private foreign publishers despite existing challenges. Officials have emphasized that enhancing international participation remains a key priority, with particular focus on expanding professional exchanges and copyright cooperation.

In this regard, preparations for the Tehran Fellowship Program have been described as substantial, with plans for the initiative to be held more robustly than in the previous edition. The fellowship program serves as a platform for networking between Iranian publishers and their counterparts from other countries, facilitating the exchange of publishing rights and promoting translation projects.

Efforts are also underway to secure broader international engagement through coordination with relevant cultural and diplomatic bodies. Organizers aim to pave the way for the participation of foreign guests and to strengthen the global dimension of the fair.

In addition to its public cultural programs, the exhibition continues to play an important role in meeting academic needs. Planning has been carried out to provide foreign books required by universities and higher education institutions, reinforcing the fair’s contribution to the country’s scientific and educational sectors.

Several key elements of the 37th edition are still to be finalized. The special guest country, a traditional feature of the fair that highlights a particular nation’s publishing industry and cultural achievements, has yet to be announced. Likewise, the official motto of the event is still under consideration, with organizers working to select an appropriate theme that reflects the fair’s cultural mission and current priorities.

The sponsoring bank and certain exhibition partners are also to be confirmed. Organizers have held consultations aimed at attracting financial and advertising support in order to offset part of the costs associated with staging the large-scale event.

Alongside the in-person exhibition, the virtual section of the fair is expected to continue, building on the experience of previous years. The online platform has provided readers across the country with access to publishers and titles beyond the physical venue, expanding the fair’s reach and enabling wider participation.

Over the years, the Tehran International Book Fair has evolved into a major cultural marketplace and a vibrant meeting point for publishers, writers, translators and readers. Beyond book sales, it hosts a wide range of cultural programs, including unveiling ceremonies, panel discussions, and professional meetings.

With preparations gaining momentum, the 37th edition is expected to once again underscore the central role of books and publishing in Iran’s cultural landscape while strengthening the country’s literary ties with the international community.

The 37th edition of the Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) will run until May 23 in Tehran.
