The older brother of trans school shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar has been arrested on a Canada-wide warrant for attempted murder less than two weeks after his sibling’s massacre.
Jacob Van Rootselaar, 22, was busted Friday in Sylvan Lake, Alberta in connection to an incident involving an edged weapon in 2024 in the province, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told CJDC TV.
Police said they had checked in on him earlier this month but he was not at his “approved” residence in Dawson Creek, British Columbia — which was later changed to Tumbler Ridge.
The warrant was then issued for his arrest, the outlet writes.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton told the outlet she wasn’t sure if the police check was connected to an investigation into his younger brother’s Feb. 10 attack against the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, the second-worst school shooting in Canada’s history.

Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18, killed eight people including his mother and 11-year-old stepbrother before making his way to the school in Tumbler Ridge and killing a teacher and six students and wounding 25 others before taking his own life.
